Post your fave music, video`s and memories here.
Here`s my fave George Michael song, and why it means so much to me.
Way back in 1984, me and my friend Mandy worked together at an electronics factory. And Mandy asked if I wanted to go to go to Corfu, Greece with her. I`ve never been abroad before, so I said yes. The following February after we booked our holiday, Mandy asked me if I wanted to go see Spandau Ballet, and I jumped at the chance. We went and had a great time. Then a few months later we went to see Wham... again at the NEC, and George announced during the concert they were filming the audience at the concert for "Everything She Wants" which led to a lot of excitement in the audience. The place was packed out as you can imagine.
Anyway a few months later me and Mandy got made redundant just as we were leaving to go on holiday. And wouldn`t you know it we had the chance to get tickets for the Live Aid concert just before we went but we couldn`t afford the tickets/travel and have spending money for Corfu - so we had to sadly decline.
While we were in Corfu, we got into the habit of having a few drinks on the balcony before our evening meal at the hotel. And while we were sat out there, someone in the balcony below played the Make it Big tape. My faves being "Like a Baby', and 'Heartbeat". We used to enjoy listening to it and just enjoy the gorgeous sea views.
After our meal we went on a pub/taverna crawl, and all the tavernas played the Live Aid concert. If we timed it just right - by the time we went to another taverna, the next artist on the Live Aid concert was just starting so we didn`t miss anything. So we were binge watching Live Aid the whole time we were there. When George/Elton were singing "Don`t Let The Sun Go Down On Me" the whole crowd there at the tavernas were singing along. It was a fantastic atmosphere. Some of them used to tease me mercifully coz they knew I loved George Michael, and said he was gay. And I said I didn`t care - it showed how lovely he was for both men and women to love him.
Another taverna played a Wham video, and when we got back off holiday, it was the first thing I bought with my dole money. Mandy used to come over my house to watch it (and the TOTP videos we taped), and at the weekend til it got too cold, Many used to bring her telly outside and we used to watch the Live Aid concert outside. It wasn`t as good as being there at Wembley, but we had some great evenings.
I think that`s why George`s death hit me so hard. Because all my wonderful memories in the 80`s were all tied up with him. Not just George, but all the wonderful friends I had made it such a fantastic decade.
