I wonder why they keep using former Emmerdale producers for Corrie? I suppose ITV think if they have proved themselves on the second soap they can be promoted to the biggest soap gig on the box.

Dunno, must be easier. Not sure what Emmerdale is like so can't comment on her skills as a producer. Best of luck anyway, I doubt it will change much. The show plays is safe now. You Nathan my lad... Should take yourself into a darkened room and give your head a serious wobble... You would be a genuine asset on the Emmerdale thread... Get watching...

I wonder if it is because ITV see Emmerdale as lower, the underdog, so have to use it as a stepping stone for their No 1 bird in the cage - Corrie.

Interesting reading different posts on the state of Coronation street on here and different forums and a great post on DS about the comparisons between EastEnders and Corrie right now. Does anybody at ITV keep an eye on their southern rivals at Elstree?
Perhaps this week is not a fair comparison as EastEnders has been a powerhouse in quality and shows how continuing drama can be at the top of it's game and rival any type of drama if told in the right way.
The gulf between the two is quite striking, EastEnders using a full cast with group scenes and at the same time has stand out performances from many of the cast with top notch scripts and beautifully filmed scenes. EastEnders seems fresh, rejuvenated and firing on all cylinders. Where as Corrie seems tired, knackered and out of ideas.
Although Corrie does not help it's self with having 6 episodes to EastEnders 4, but when you consider how long the episodes are Corrie 22 minutes taking the ads out and EastEnders 27 minutes, this means Corrie is only producing 1 extra episode a week, so the quality aspect should not be an issue.
If I was ITV I would be very worried right now and need to take action. Giving Iain Mc doo dah a promotion is not the answer or bringing in an old Emmerdale producer is either. It is just sticking a plaster over the problem. A new broom is needed, somebody who is not part of the ITV establishment.
Although Kate Oates came from Emmerdale she was a breath of fresh air and make Corrie exciting and made you want to watch. I don't think the hour episodes are doing the show any favours. I know ITV wanted to extend the evening news to an hour which is commendable, and they thought by moving Emmerdale against EastEnders would kill the BBC soap off, well it has not worked and has only damaged Emmerdale in the process.
What can ITV do? Cut the episode count down to 5, 22 minutes, look at what Chris Clenshaw has done at EastEnders. Go back to basics, no more issue based storylines, have more character driven story's, play to the show's strengths. We need more warmth and humour and not slapstick Carry on Corrie and we need a Brian Parks style cast cull.

God knows I’ve tried but I just can’t get into it. If you have ever known villages in Yorkshire they are nothing like Emmerdale. I can’t get my head around that.

EE is firing on all cylinders right now. I used to watch all 3 but I'm now down to the best for professionalism with the actors, storylines and decent storylines. I still pop into CS when I have the time just for a laugh like at how pathetic it has come.

Emmerdale is a tiny village in the Yorkshire Dales and yet it has so many murders, disasters, affairs and more. Real Dales villages have one murder every 100 years, if that even. At least CS and EE are in cities so the murder rate is more realistic.

Out of the soaps, as we know Emmerdale and Home And Away are the 2 soaps that have changed the most over the years, visually and tonally. The original farming/fostering format has been abandoned, and even virtually all the original locations have gone and both shows seem to totally ignore their history.

The main difference between the two northern soaps is Emmerdale has a more picturesque back drop.

The first village was much more picturesque than the 1976-1998 village they used, Esholt. I have been to Esholt but after that I watched a lot of the Arncliffe era episodes and found the show was more authentic as it filmed in the real Dales. Esholt is more like a rural Coronation Street.

I have always meant to buy the original Emmerdale Farm on DVD but have never gotten round to it. Can you buy it...? Is it available and if so where and how many episodes...? There are five volumes that appear to span the show only from November 1972 to March 1974. There is also Emmerdale boxsets spanning from 1989 to 1991 although were only released in Finland. Not like the Corrie DVD's that at least spread episodes out throughout the decades to give viewers an idea about the different characters and storylines that happened.
