I think EE is in a terrible state, and compared to the other two soaps, it's shameful tbh.
(Unpopular opinion with DS members from what I have seen)

(Unpopular opinion with DS members from what I have seen) I'm not sure that it is an unpopular opinion on DS, you have half a dozen posters who will defend EE to the death like Toni and a few others but most of us are unhappy with its current state, me being one of them. I do, however, pick my moments to speak up, and I am also able to find nuggets to compliment but JY getting another stint was always the wrong thing to do and even DS is coming round to this opinion no matter how slowly.

My post at the end was a bit exaggerated I guess😂 Your a better man than me to find something in EE to still compliment😂 My issue with the show is that I have no one I can invest in, but the stupid bloody Carters, Phil Mitchell and Ian Beale as long term characters now. Max has been destroyed from the womanising little toe-rag into a killer. The show doesn't respect it's history which was backed up by the Gavin stealing catchphrases storyline, and they bring back characters (Mel and Kathy) for a brief spike in the ratings. I feel like EE is now beyond the point of repair which devastates me, when I watch the 80's episodes with Den and Angie. I don't know if you agree about EE being on it's last legs? Surely it's worse than 2004 period quality wise?

I'm still watching and there are still gems in there. It's not at it's best by a long shot but it is still my favourite soap mainly because the actors are by far the best in any of the main 3 soaps. We have been her before and there is no way that the BBC are going to get rid which they are all pleading for on DS.
There is so much uncertainty about who is going to be at the helm and they need to get that sorted out and make an announcement soon.

They won't get rid, but I think the show which is currently in the state of limbo should cut it's episodes down to maybe two a week. Give it time to remain on air, but pull it's trousers up from the ploughing it has taken, and hopefully regain it's dignity. It has been pointed out to me that the announcements are not as frequent as under DTC, maybe that's a sign of BBC taking there eye of the ball, or simply no longer caring. Something is going on, we need to send a spy into the BBC to uncover the truth for us, or just get Danny Dyer drunk and inform us😂

Kate Oates and ITV announce everything virtually. Do ITV care more about their soaps more than the BBC do re EastEnders, I would say Yes they do. Is it shameful? no it isn't. It's soap. ITV need their soaps all 360 minutes of them to prop up their schedule. Do the BBC need EE, yes, but it could survive with out it, that is the difference. Take the soaps away from ITV what have you got, didly squat. But lets be honest EE is going no where and DS and the Daily ail need to wake up and smell the coffee!

Agreed I think your point about the difference in the ITV and BBC soaps is interesting, and could explain why ITV doesn't go without a few weeks of trailers or advertisement, as they need there soaps more than the BBC, who must be relatively happy with EE being a filler at this stage.

People forget that amongst a lot of the fabulous story lines of the past there has been a lot of guff, after Sharongate the mid-nineties were pretty awful. Even 1985 was pretty slow at times, although to be fair they were introducing the characters to the audience at the time as it was new and for me 1986 is the best year they ever had. Even during the 1998-2002 period that everybody on DS raves about there was some utter tosh, the biggest mistake of that period was it should have been who killed Philth not who shot him.

I think the Mitchell's should have left after a couple of years.
EE will not be axed though. On WW people are thinking that they are trying to kill EE off. No it is just one thing, John Yorke.

I agree, the BBC may not care about EE the way ITV care about CS and ED, but EE will not be axed and will be here for quite a while.
