Brian Mosley was sffering from ill health in 1998 after his major heart attack which he never fully recovered from. Like Bernard Youens 20 years earlier, Brian suffered bad health in his later years which showed in their characters Stan (1976-1984) and Alf (1997-1999). Yet Stan and Alf never actually had the major health problems of the actors but looked like they did. They just suffered from tiredness.
Until March 1997, Alf was very chatty and active, like Stan was until Nov 1975. 2 leading males suffered such indignity in their final years.
Julie Goodyear leaving in 1995 was a huge blow as Bet was the replacement Annie/Hilda/Elsie all rolled into one of Corrie.
Emmerdale had a so called revamp in early 1994 in the same way Corrie did in 1997, and both shows changed a lot afterwards.

The introduction of a younger set of characters made sense but it didn’t have to be at the expense of anyone aged over 65, and I think it’s really sad that even now, Thelma doesn’t seem keen to reprise Mavis, even for a short stint. Rita and her were friends for 25 years and it seems odd that she’s rarely mentioned.

Jean Alexander said she started to criticise the shows direction when the Park era began.
Bruce Jones is just like Les in real life, probably worse. Vicky Entwhistle played herself in Corrie as well just under a fictional name. I doubt we will ever see Les again as they sacked him in 2007, so why lift the sacking now? Bruce Jones played Bruce Jones in Corrie.

I always believe the hallmark of a good actor/actress is seeing them in other things and generally getting better as time goes on. This works for Jane and Georgia who left the Street and went into other shows for a few years and came back better for the experience. I don’t think we’ve seen Bruce or Vicky do that. The show has survived without either of them for years and will prosper regardless and neither Leanne or Toyah’s characters suffer as a result of their parents being around.
They replicated the token “oaf” a few years later anyway with Eddie Windass, the difference being that Steve Huison can act.

Not a fan of Vicky's but she has done quite a bit of Theatre since leaving, Les Miserable in the West End to name one.

What with gargoyle expectant mother Gumma Winter as a major character, the show will only get worse.
