Not always a fan of recasts because it messes with the continuity and sometimes the actor is nowhere near as good as the original actor, but they got the Ben Mitchell recasting spot on. What's been your favourite recasting? There's been a few over the years. My favourite is Charlie Brooks as Janine Butcher. The previous actor who played her looked so different to her.

Peggy Mitchell. Even though the 2nd Peggy looked nothing like the 1st, Babs did make the role her own.
Worst recast was Michelle Fowler.

The first two looked like they could be related to Ricky and maybe June had Italian/Greek bloodlines and could have been a bit darker?

Even Frank Butcher may have had a Greek/Italian grandparent. Frank had dark hair before he went gradually bald.
Big Mo Harris is of Polish descent I think as she mentioned a Polish ancestor, meaning Kat has Polish roots.
Ian Beale is part Scottish and I think the Mitchells are. So the Slaters and Mitchells have Polish/Scottish ancestors.

In 1993, Frank found his daughter's baby's father was German and Frank called him a Kraut.
Lots of East London families descended from French Huguenots so maybe Frank had some Huguenot blood, and many French people have dark hair.

Another good recasting that springs to mind is Ben Hardy as Peter Beale. Shame the actor left the part too early. But he is doing well for himself in Hollywood.

Phil Mitchell in 1999 believe it or not. Recast but played by the same actor, the character had a complete personality transplant. May as well have been a recast. Phil 2000-present bears no resemblance to Phil 1990-1999.

What about Mark Fowler? I seem to remember him being recast in his early appearances. I was too young to remember, though.
Todd Carty did a fine job in the role. Still annoyed that they killed off Mark. He should've been a long-term regular along with Phil, Ian and Sharon.

Sadly the original actor to play Mark, David Scarboro, struggled with the fame and the press were no helping he took his own life.
I think in the end they had to kill Mark off, he was the healthiest HIV positive person in the country, not sure I’ve ever seen one with middle age spread before!
The problem with the recast of Michelle was that the storyline was ridiculous, by the end she was bedding in nicely!

I feel they could have recasted Ali Osman. He left in late 1989, but could have returned a year or so later, played by a lookalike actor. An actor with curly long-ish brown hair.
Shame that Ali never met the Mitchells as he left a few months prior to the Mitchells arrival.

I agree Ben Hardy was a good recast for Peter. I also think more recently Max Bowden as Ben is very good. I know a little unpopular but I liked Jenna Russell as Michelle but I am a big Jenna Russell fan.

Not unpopular with me Holey. I’ve liked everything Jenna has worked on.
Maybe Easties tried too hard, they picked someone the right age, who knew Letitia and Adam from drama school and even had Sue Tully’s blessing. Maybe they should have just winged it like Emmerdale did when they recast Carly Hope who was a mid twenties short brunette as an early thirties tall blonde with silicon boobs?!

I quite liked the Lauren Branning recast. Jac Jossa and Maddie Duggan bear a strong resemblance to one another. Jac's Lauren was much louder and more fesity than Maddie's shy Lauren.

Along with Charlie Brooks, Todd would get my vote, he did a great job on the HIV stuff at a time when people didn't really always want to find out about it, they handled his thirteen years with that story running through it, remarkably well with few if any slip ups. People only seem to want short term stories these days and don't appear to be interested in properly crafted stories like that, with the thread running through their entire run. People are so impatient these days, I like that kind of stuff and EE does it really well most of the time.
