I wouldn't even give it air time.

Didn't see it but I don't think you could beat the David Jason/Pam Ferris/Catherine Zeta Jones before she became famous original.

Worse than the Porridge remake of 2016-2017 and the final 3 episodes of Only Fools which totally undid their great ending in 1996 when they became millionaires.

The pace is too quick for the 1950s. Life outside the major towns and cities was a lot quieter back then. Remember theyāve only just started building bypasses and the first motorway is about a year away and being in Preston will feel like itās on the moon to anyone living in a quiet Kent village.
Bradley Walsh is OTT (as per usual!) and the scripting suggests Pop, or Pa as heās been called a few times in the episode, is not just a bit fly heās positively criminal. Jasonās Larkin wouldnāt have behaved like that.
Scanlan is pretty much spot on for Ma. Tempted to ask Pam Ferris where her 1990 cloning machine is š
Mariette actually looks a lot like the original Primrose.
Making Primrose clever but dowdy seems a bizarre step to make.
Montgomery has been made a bit younger IMO and as a result seems more annoying this time around.
Iām very impressed with Amelia Bullimoreās interpretation of Edith Pilchester, a world away from Steph Barnes in Corrie!
Making the Brigadier Indian kinda works because you did have the odd ex Indian person settle here after the war, a lot of them didnāt want to stay on after the Empire crumbled.
Cedric as a black man, that does seem very tokenistic and itās unrealistic for the locals to not be slightly wary of him as they had probably never seen a person of colour before.
Nice to see Peter Davison back on TV. Heās always good for a giggle or two and will enjoy playing the Vicar.
Overall itās likeable but not as classic as the original.

Youāre being very generous, roverman. I can find no redeeming feature, Iām afraid.

I am generous- itās one of my faults!
One thing I did like was Ma drilling into the boys and girls the importance of being friendly and respectful to other young people.
It was of course a tick box thing but I believe the original Ma would have done the same, we just wouldnāt have seen it spelled out in front of us on camera.

David Jason still came across as Del Boy in the original. He cannot escape the Del boy moniker.

Dr Beeching did not shut the stations till the 60ās and The Larkins is set in the 50ās . I suppose it was a nod to Dr Beeching. Just one station. Still can't get into this remake. Ma is the best one in it, I agree.

Another rubbish episode. The only good thing about this sorry revival is Ma.

Hopefully more work will come out of this for Ms Scanlan

I saw ā Maā in an episode of Doc Martin where she played the hopeless new Doc who was to replace our Doc when he decided to leave ( but didnāt). The actress is never short of work. In loads of things.

David Jason must be shaking his head if he is watching.

Then I watched some of the original episodes being re -run on the Drama channel. Chalk and cheese.
