Neighbours was always more homely than H&A.
I can see some of the cast going to H&A though in the future.

Very shocked to hear the news. I never thought a long-running soap like Neighbours would get axed. I haven't watched it in years, but I always intended to go back to it and watch a few episodes here and there.
I do find it a bit strange that none of the Australian TV channels were funding Neighbours' budget/production costs... why is a UK Broadcaster having to pay for a Australian Soap Opera owned by Network 10 in Australia? Network 10 must be some real cheapskates.

Out of the 5 main UK based soaps, I wonder which one will go first. probably Hollyoaks, then Doctors.
I'd rather Home And Away, Doctors and Hollyoaks got canned over CS, Emmerdale, EE and Neighbours who are in my book the most iconic soaps shown in the UK.

Of all the current soaps, I thought Hollyoaks would be the first to get axed before any other soap.
Surprised Hollyoaks has survived this long. Not that Hollyoaks is a bad soap, at its prime it was as good as any soap, but it always struggled for popularity compared to the Big 2 Soaps.

Hollyoaks was an idea that Phil Redmond had when doing Grange Hill. I think HO was based on GH a bit. He wanted another drama focusing on teens just not in such a school setting.
But yes I thought HO would have only lasted about 10 years. It has never been like CS or EE.

Some are hoping Neighbours will be rebooted in the future. If so it will not be in the same format it is now, also I think it being rebooted is quite remote. It will cost a fortune, and soaps are dying out.

That's one thing British Soaps don't have to worry about... lack of funding. BBC and ITV have done a good job of financing their soaps over the years despite the ratings decline.

Neighbours is going forever, any chance of a revival is out of the question. It would cost a total fortune to revive it, unless it was a small spin off at most.

Also the Daily Fail are saying that Kylie felt pressured to return to the show, hinting that she returned under a bit of perhaps emotional duress and persuasion. Well it took a lot of arm twisting to get Nick Berry to reprise his role as Wicksy for a 5 second cameo for Pat's funeral in 2012.
