I didn't like any of these, not quite as bad as the Ferrieras or the Hartmans mind you.
Beppe was a lovesick puppy, it annoyed me how he used to follow Tiffany about. He was extremely weak minded and lacked a backbone.
Gianni and Jackie Owen weren't that bad together, although I could never really get into her storyline concerning server PMT.
Teresa and Nicky didn't really make much of an impression either, both came across as selfish and whiny.
Their grandparents vanished too, which wasn't a bad thing.

I agree with all of your points Scrabbler.
Also, I always struggled to buy the Beppe/Lynne Slater relationship for some reason. Felt like they just didn't match if you know what I mean.

I agree, the Lynne/Beppe thing was bizarre. You could just about see what she saw in him, but not the other way around. Lynne only really worked with Garry.

Oh I know exactly what you mean lol! Like he'd have looked at dowdy Lynne! Tiffany, yes. Even Bianca with her sparky personality and striking hair but Lynne? Dull as ditchwater Lynne? Nope.

I liked Beppe. Think he'd fit in well nowadays maybe getting together with Roxy and working at the car lot with Charlie.
Definitely agree about him and Lynne not being right together. Weird pairing indeed.

Did they even do anything worthwhile? I remember Beppe and Gianni being the failed Mitchell Brothers 2.0, Nikki and Theresa being pointless, apart from Theresa dating Matthew Rose (which still didn't do much for the character), and Rosa...I can't remember what she did, TBH.
Beppe had potential away from his family, but then they had him sleep with Lynne. Worst love triangle ever.

They ran an Italian Restaurant which was a bit stereotypical but hey ho.
I felt sorry for Louise Jameson she'd had great roles in Doctor Who and Bergerac and had the potential to be a good matriarchal character here but in the mid 1990s maybe EE had too many strong matriarchal characters?
Pauline Kathy Pat Peggy Irene Hills Louise Raymond Cindy Beale (she did fight for those kids!)
no room left for Rosa? Jameson was quoted as saying she'd love Rosa to have had an affair with Frank or Roy and she ended up with boring Jeff Healey making a clumsy pass at her! Even old family friend 'Gangster George' overlooked her for brassy Peggy!
Vastly underused character IMO

I couldn`t stand Nicky. She reminded me of Nicky in early Neighbours -and I disliked her too. Loved Beppe and Gianni - especially Beppe. What he saw in Lynn Slater though is beyond me. I didn`t mind Teresa. She had potential given decent writing. I loved Louise Jameson who played the Mother...can`t think of her name...Rose? She was dreadfully miscast as the matriarch of the family though in my opinion. She should have been an aunt or a friend of the family. When I think of her brilliant performance as Blanche in Tenko - Louise was really wasted in her EE role.

I still have many VHS videos of EastEnders during the Di Marco era. I quite liked them. They were the characters in the last really good years of EE before it started going a bit weird in 2001.
In 2000 the Di Marcos bar Beppe left to move to Leicester. I live in the small hope we may one day see Gianni back in Walford Instead of DTC bringing back characters that only appeared in the last 10 years.
Irene Hills, her maiden name was Carter. Ugh.

Now that IS interesting!
Irene was married originally to Ted Hills who was Kathy's elder brother. Wonder if he knows his sister really is alive?
Given Irene's age she would have to be a younger sister or patriarchal cousin of Stan?

Carter is quite a common surname but in EastEnders world that does not matter. Irene's aunty appeared in 2000 for a few episode, I think she was called Mabel Carter or something. Could be a sister of Stan. If DTC knows Irene Hills maiden name is Carter he would have her related to the current crop given his obsession with the Carters.

I couldn't take any of them seriously. We had full siblings who clearly looked half Italian, quarter Italian, not Italian at all etc. As an Italian myself I remember this scene where we had a couple say a few phrases to each other in Italian yet it sounded like foreigners not Italians talking. Whenever I think of Teresa I just remember those awful Norfolk episodes.
