roverman , I've figured it out! I googled it to make sure... I think it's Smokey and the Bandit! I watched that movie when I was a kid so my memory of it is pretty vague. But I remember Burt Reynolds being in it and the runaway bride...

Okay, it's my turn now... finally...
A rogue spy is captured on foreign soil after attempting to rescue his abducted lover and is tortured for information. His bosses decide he is not worth saving and left to die. And thus, it is left up to his old mentor to rescue the spy. However, we learn the two had a big falling out many years ago, which forced the two spies to go their own separate ways.
