Well nearly all the camp mates have always said it was one of the best experiences they have ever had with unlikely friendships made. So Duncan Ballantine is a millionaire, George Hamilton was an A list celeb that appeared a few years ago and we saw what a lovely bloke he was. That is a big part of it that you see the "real" person behind the media persona. Who is decent, who has mettle, who is nasty and bitchy, who is weak and wimpy and a cry baby. The only downside for me is having bloody Joe Squash showing off every night on ITV2 on his once a year job.

I watch it religiously too Sherwood. It might be predictable and not high brow but millions of people enjoy it for just what it is 'light entertainment'. There are also a few on it this year that I would not class as 'Z Lister's' as we know who they are and what they have achieved. Bloody hell, Duncan Bannatyne is a millionaire with businesses all over the place! If he chooses to participate on the show that doesn't make him any less successful in what he does in civvy street. Totally wallis. Let's face it most of the stuff we talk about on here is rubbish TV it just seems that reality TV is the bottom of the barrel of rubbish TV I don't care, I watch X Factor, BB and IAC, oh and Hollyoaks redface4 I'm used to being questioned on my taste Well on this forum anyway s0238 It's Marmite TV isn't it, you either love it or hate it. I am sure it will rate well for itv. We have the same conversation in our house every year, 'who's that, never heard of them.' They do seem to be short this year on celebs, but I suppose you watch as much for Ant and Dec and the challenges and the jungle mates getting on, or not as the case may be. Haven't made my mind up yet if I will watch this year. The trouble is you watch the first episode and you are hooked for three weeks. I don't love it. It's crap I know but hey I get a kick out of crap TV, after all I watch Corrie and EE and Emmerdale don't I smiley-graucho Very true. I can't argue with that. I am undecided whether I am going to watch, I say that every year and watch it. What I like about it is, it's easy viewing after a long day. smiley-biglaugh

I can understand why somebody like Bannatyne would do it - for the challenge. There can't be many 'mountains to climb' for somebody like that.
There is no such thing as 'rubbish' tv - it is just a matter of taste. It something doesn't appeal to you, you're likely to think it is stupid and wonder at the sanity or intelligence of those that watch it. And sadly, many people that like a show or genre that others dismiss, will do the same thing themselves. Something i discovered tears ago when i was part of a Doctor Who fan club, a show dismissed by many as "kids" tv which used to really anger and annoy these very intelligent grown men. And then one day they had a real go at me because i mentioned wanting to be home in time to see a programme about soaps - "why do you watch them, they're stupid, rot your brain" etc.

Soaps like Corrie and such can be very good, they have had to move with the times, the show would not survive if it went back to the days when Hilda was in it, and Emmerdale has had to change, soaps have to evolve.
Just I'm A Celeb and CBB and BB dont appeal to me. Each to their own, as they saying goes.

I'm looking forward to this, doesn't really bother me if I know the 'celebs' or not as sometimes the people you least expect end up being the most entertaining. Got an evening planned of Strictly (last night's and tonight's) and I'm A Celebrity! Oh yeah, popcorn TV I don't have to think about for tonight

My mother curls her nose up slightly at the soaps too yet soaps (especially EE) have often had me pondering and thinking more than some big, oh so worthy drama! Usually about the social aspects and human nature but they've also brought up subjects which I've been able to talk to /educate my kids about without it being formal (e.g. HIV, homosexuality, racism, different religions, theft, rape and murder - although the way no one seems to pay officially for the crimes in EE these days I might have a bit trouble with the last two nowadays!)

Exactly Lotty.
Soaps can actually perform a very useful, educationary function - without wanting to sound too stupid, I'd say storylines like Shiela Grant's rape taught me more about safety and what you should do should the worst happen than any number of parent or teacher lectures would have done. But aside from that, people should be allowed to enjoy what they enjoy without being looked down on for it. It is pure snobbishness.
It's the same sort of peole that declare that they never read fiction as it is a waste of time. No it isn'( - it makes you think and often learn about subjects. Or those that declare they never watch film or tv adaptations of great novels - again why not? It can be interesting to see what they do with it and surely it is a good thing if it gets people interested enough to go and read the book something is based on and then read more novels.
9/10, people that snootily declare soaps (or anything else) are rubbish have never actually watched one so how can they possibly know or judge?

My old mam loves IAC, she watches religiously every year.
She thinks Ant & Dec are great.
She'll be glued to it tonight, munching on her mint imperials.

I love it a the beginning when they all love each other but it soon changes as people become grating. So far I am quite liking Suzanna Constantine with her can do attitude, Lady C already is beginning to annoy with her "can I opt out" attitude, how old is she anyway - about 70? A bit too old to be in there methinks. Thought Duncan Ballantine was great in the swimming task but he soon got tired out and had to have a kip, bless. There always has to be the pretty but silly screamy girl and the Haunting woman is very shrill indeed.

I haven't watched it yet as I'm cutting down on TV viewing, but I am hoping Tony Hadley wins
