That was pretty scary last night... From Laurels point of view when he slipped back in time like that... Will he jump forward to the present day again or is this the end...? What would you do...?
I don't know a lot about Dementia even though my wife is a trained EMI carer but my thoughts are this... If Ashley had wrote a letter to his self or even kept a diary knowing that this moment was coming couldn't he then just read the diary / letter and bring his self back up to speed... I realise he may not remember writing the stuff or that it would change his mind but at least it could help him come to terms with what was happening...
I watched a programme a few months ago about a care home in the Midlands who had residents in there suffering with Dementia... There was this chap on there who was in his 80's and he just wandered about all day asking people if they had seen his dad... He also used to say that his dad had said he was going to such and such a place to see someone and he'd be back soon...
Apparently he used to work with his dad at a car manufacturers in Birmingham when he first left school and the care staff reckon he has slipped back to that time and in his mind he is searching the car plant for his dad... It was really sad to see a bloke of his age asking for his dad in a voice that resembled a child...
The mind is a frightening place...

Felt really sorry for poor Ashley tonight.
When it finally dawned on him that he'd actually wifed Maurel, again, it brought it home to me just what a precious gift dementia is.
I just hope for Ashley's sake, his comes back really soon.

I wonder if he will slip back to the period where he was slapping his old man every day...? No not having a ham shank... You dirty minded gits... Sandy, his dad...

I wouldn't worry too much if I was Ash... I've lost entire days before now as well... Take Monday for instance... Complete blank...
I wish Sunday was a complete blank but no... I fully remember getting sozzled in the pub then a bottle of red in the evening... I even remember being humiliated by the dirty rags... But absolutely nothing on Monday...
And while I'm on that note... Laurel shouldn't be too concerned... I bet she lost days on end or even a full week when she was on the grog... As Doug can well vouch for...
I wonder if Doug stepped up to mark and gave Laurel a reet good seeing to on her wedding night... Poor Ash...

I hear you Chas. I myself thought exactly the same last night. Wouldn't it be wonderful to see Ashley lamp the noisy old sod and floor him. Yeah, do your booming Shakespeare impressions from there you daft old soak. And while you're down there, polish my ruddy shoes. Be even better if Ashley were smiling sweetly whilst he did it. He's got a lovely smile. PS. I also hear you loud and clear pal about "losing days." I lost a whole decade once during the 90s. What exactly went on, well goodness only knows. Alls I know is when I finally came around, I found I'd somehow acquired a wife, a kid, and a very uncool, sensible car. Drugs, don't do it folks!

I feel sorry for Ashley and will miss him when he goes, although I give it six months before the lovely Laurel takes up with Maaaaaarlon again.

I will miss Ashley too butterball. By the time poor Ashley shuffles off this mortal coil, she will be drinking the whole of Yorkshire dry...and blaming it on Gobby. "No Dad it wasn`t me Dad. Remember that time when Gobby had vodka in a bottle found under the couch? it was Gobby again Dad honest Dad. Now take off my wet tights. And you may want to buy me a new mattress coz that`s soaked an` all" Ugh

Ashley is an old man abuser.
He is the Dot Cotton of Emmerdale, the bible basher who always breaks the 10 commandments.

The ridiculous and totally irresponsible 'smuggling out' of Ashley from his care home to spend the birthday with his selfish old father, does not bode well. Suspect I am going to be watching through my fingers.

On a more serious note... They shouldn't have took Ashley out... With or without the homes consent...
It unsettles them when they return... They have forgotten that they are supposed to be there... So all Ashley wanted to do was to leave and go to the service...
At work, my missus looks after a resident... A woman who, every night at 9pm sharp... Stands by the front door with her hat and coat on... Waiting to get out to go and catch the bus... So she can go home to her Mum & Dad... She's in her 90's...

I`m sure it occurred to Sandy in last nights show that this would be the last Birthday he would get to celebrate with his son. Poor Sandy. It`s Arthur I feel sorry for the most.....even more than Lushy, Sandy, and Gabby. The poor lad will only remember the bad times with his Dad, and not the precious few good times. He`s at the age now where he needs his Dad the most. Poor Arthur
