i am not sure what I thought about this. James Nesbitt is always good but I can't put my finger on it. There seemed no real feeling and passion in the relationship. It just seemed cold and ordinary. It was not as if they couldn't resist each other. I just found it rather odd. What did others think ?

I can take or leave James Nesbitt at the best of times. I think his performance depends on the writing and I thought this was a typical ITV Drama which was uninspiring to be honest.
I read about the story and an interview by him before watching but it didn't live up to my expectations.

Yeap I agree with you both. To be honest, recently James Nesbitt plays a similar sort of character in every role he takes on. I suppose he is a more evil looking in this. I will give it another go next week. It is average at best.

If this wasn't a true story I would have said this was unbelievable and very far fetched after tonight's episode. The pastor is on to him.

I've got this recorded to watch, nowadays I seem to leave it until I have two or three episodes to watch so I can watch another if I like it.
James Nesbitt is hit and miss with me too but he was excellent in that drama on BBC last year when his son was snatched abroad - so good I can't remember the name ( redface4 )but it was very good, best thing I've seen him in.

I caught the back half of last nights episode the sight of someone being gassed whilst in bed caught my attention. The pastor is that bloke who ran the supermarket in Trollied (Sky One) a much underrated actor IMO.

The Pastor I think is played by Jason Watkins who excellently portrayed Christopher Jenkins (and even looked like him), in the Lost Honour of Christopher Jenkins, the elderly English teacher who was villified by the Press when he was wrongly accused of the murder of Joanna Yates back in 2010.
I read that the real Colin enjoyed seeing his story made into TV and watching "himself"

Jason Watkins had a daughter who died at 2 and a half years old of sepsis . So sad. I agree , he is a brilliant actor. He was also in the children's film "Dude, where's my Donkey" with Martin Clunes.

Watched the first one tonight and enjoyed it, it was quite gripping. The James Nesbitt character is a right nasty piece of work isn't he? (I know, no sh!t Sherlock he's a murderer) He treated his wife abominably. So arrogant, I knew he'd start treating his wife's money like his own as soon as she told him she had it, daft woman should have kept it to herself but the caveman way he went on about keeping her and the kids she probably wanted to shove it in his face. I was also a bit shocked when his bit on the side wasn't exactly horrified at the thought of murdering her husband just going on about how they could possibly do it, how they'd get off with it etc. Ugh, horrible people.
That's so sad about Jason Watkin's daughter Lou, I never knew that. Can't imagine the heartbreak.

Yes, Watkins dedicated his BARFT last year to his daughter which was the first I knew of it. As well as just being dreadfully sad (any child's death is) is stuck in my mind as my mother also died of Sepcis and it is something that many people don't seem to realise how serious it is.
I also have the first 2 episodes recorded and will probably try and catch up tomorrow night as i have the house to myself.
The Missing was excellent, and Nesbitt was excellent in it but I've never been especially overawed by his work, except for that. I do know a lot of people that can't stand him a friend of mine refused to watch 'The Missing' simply because he was in it, despite all the fantastic reviews it was getting. He does seem to have that effect on many viewers.

The first thing I ever saw James Nesbitt in was Cold Feet, a series about 4 young couples. I loved him in that and the whole series.

James N was also excellent in Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde.
That's what I kept thinking as I watched the 2nd episode, what an evil couple they were, her as well who was quite happy to go along with the murder of her husband and father of her kids. Never fear though the Pastor is on to them!!

The Pastor is right. The wife would never abandon her children .
