With a Holby City thread around I felt it only made sense for one to be made for Casualty too. Any other fans around? I've been a regular Casualty viewer since Series 22 began back in 2007. It's gone through so many characters since then that it can be hard to keep track a lot of the time, and I miss so many of them. I really liked Maggie and was thrilled to see her appear in the Zoe-centric episode the other week, and I was also a fan of Kelsey and Alice. Ruth and Toby were also favourites of mine, perhaps down to their arrival being when I started watching so I was able to follow both of their journeys as they got to grips with their chosen profession. I'm not normally one for shipping couples but I always loved Ruth and Jay together, and although it was sad when they went I was pleased they got a much-deserved happy ending after all the turmoil Ruth went through. I'd welcome both back in a heartbeat. Nick Jordan will always be missed, and seeing as David Wicks is no longer on the scene in Walford I would love to see him back in the ED, especially with Connie around. The thing I do like about Casualty though is that even with such a high cast turnover I find that most of the characters are engaging and enjoyable to watch, and the current set up is no different. Charlie is legendary, of course, and I adore the old timers like Tess and Zoe (okay, they may have arrived during the 2000s but lets face it, by Casualty standards they do qualify as old timers ). Big Mac, Noel and Louise are a great trio, although it took me a while to warm to Louise. Connie as clinical lead has been fun although frustratingly it's taken them a while to remember that she does actually have a heart and isn't a complete bitch - her current story has been excellent though with some sublime performances from Michael Byrne as the patient she's looking after. Max and Zoe's blossoming relationship has been one of my favourite things from the past year - something that perhaps sounds a bit bizarre on paper yet the actors absolutely make it work. The return of Dylan "Google it you moron!" Keogh was a wonderful surprise and I hope there's some big stuff in the pipeline for him.

I have watched the show off an on since pretty much the beginning. I vaguely remember it started on a Friday evening?
I agree re Dylan, he's funny, laugh out loud funny. I like a lot of the characters Mrs Beauchamp, Zoe, Max and Dixy. Casaulty is always apart of my Saturday night viewing. I wonder how the Connie stuff is going to pan out?

Thanks TellyAddict.
I had intended to start a Casualty thread up too so you've saved me a job x
I watched from the start and loved it until about season 10 when it just got too soapy. Even though I love Soaps (wouldn't be here if i didn't) and think they need continuing story elements in Cas, it just crossed too much into that area. I kept watching (and taping) until about season 14 when i pretty much gave up and Holby took over as the one i always watched.
I've always kept track of what is going on though, and tune in for 'big' episodes or storylines. I have been watching most episodes for the past year, mainly due to Connie being back. It's okay, whiles away an hour but i can't say I'm overly impressed.
Season 7 - 1992/1993 remains my favourite ever yearn. Oi think they got the balance of staff storylines, politics and patient of the week absolutely spot on. Plus it was a perfect length at 22 episodes and had some really hard hitting stuff.
Re day of broadcast. Seasons 1 and 2 were on Saturdays. It moved to Fridays after the 9pm news for season 3 and stayed there until season 7 (September 92) when it moved back to Saturday and has stayed there ever since. I think.

Pretty much what Kate says. She knows how much I love (or rather loved) Casualty thanks to our initial meeting on the Holby TV site. It really hasn't been in the best of health since the end of the 90s alas. It has got consistently soapy and far fetched and I got in the habit of skipping much of what I call the HolbyOaks era (basically most series after Mal Young arrived as EP and placed young and vapid types to the fore) but it did start to improve when Ruth and Toby arrived, wobbled a bit again and then got back on a brilliant track when the show relocated to Cardiff. But it didn't last long and when Oliver Kent returned at the helm I gave up watching, followed by my giving up of Holby not long after. I've been about 18 months clean of Casualty now, but my heart still belongs to Charlie and I regularly watch eps from S1 right the way through to S12, with S6,7 and 8 being my particular favourites. It was so hard hitting then, so gritty and mature that it is just offensive how dumb it is now - Dynasty in a Hospital.

Hi guys
I only started watching Casualty when Connie came into it as I'd previously watched her on HC. Not overly keen on how she's been portrayed on Casualty so far, but nice to see a softer side atm with this current storyline with the MND guy.
I do like Zoe, Dylan, Ethan, Lily, Big Mac, and Max. Kind of starting to like Cal as feel a bit sorry for him after being conned, but he was a bit of a twat for nicking Ethan's money :-(

Kind of starting to like Cal as feel a bit sorry for him after being conned, but he was a bit of a twat for nicking Ethan's money :-( You should feel sorry for Cal but he was such a ++++ using Ethan's credit card (after he'd asked asked for a donation and been turned down so not like he could say he thought Ethan wouldn't mind) and even worse in some ways, taking their mothers ring without talking to Ethan about it. He isn't even sorry now, just putting on puppy eyes so Ethan doesn't call the Police and acting hurt that he has been asked to mive out. Connie's characterisation has been awful. She has lost all depth. It is only because Mealing is a damned good actress that she isn't a complete pantomime villain. I'm afraid I can't stand Zoe - never have been able to. Dylan is great though and Ethan is okay.

Cal is a total arse, I can't stand him. He's so entitled it's ridiculous. Never mind asking him to move out Ethan should be phoning the police.
Hated the way they portrayed Connie as not being able to cope with both a job and daughter yet the single-parent men seem to sail through!!!
Was overjoyed when Dylan returned. Please give him a proper storyline.
I don't know if this is sacrilege but I've never been able to stand Dixie so couldn't really empathise too much with her with Jeff died, especially as people were treating her like his partner when he HAD a new girlfriend/fiancée! I know she later apologised but she was vile to Ash.
If they put Lofty with Robyn I think I'll puke. He's OK if a bit of a drip but I can't STAND Robyn. She's a liability, how many times has her gob run away with her or she's done something she shouldn't have yet she's STILL there!
Quite a few on DS can't stand Rita, she's not a favourite with me but I don't mind her.
I don't think Zoe and Max will last but they might as well enjoy it while it does. Zoe's OK.
I have a lot of time for Big Mac, Charlie and Tess.
And I have a soft spot for the caustic Lily!
But what the hell was Chelsee Healey doing clogging up my screen?

Thanks for the reminder....just caught up with it on iPlayer Ethan really should consider calling the cops on Cal. I really am getting tired of his obnoxious ways....especially the disgusting way he treats his brother. Stealing from him, taking the ring their mum left him to propose to his con artist girlfriend. Even the way he undermines Ethans work as a doctor infuriates me too. At least Cal gave Ethan their Mum`s wedding ring back. But he still has a lot of grovelling to do. I`m glad Ethan kicked him out. Maybe Cal leaving that ring in his locker was a way of getting Ethan to change his mind about kicking him out. Stay strong Ethan!!! By the way...regarding Iann the paramedic. Didn`t he used to have a Scottish accent?

I don't like Dixie or Rita either.
Don't even get me started on the Chelsee Healey character - especially wtf Ethan saw in her. That was just ridiculous (he should be with Lily anyhow!)
I guess you guys are probably right about Cal and he's just sucking up to Ethan. I doubt he'll ever change his spots.

I've been saying for quite some time that both Casualty and Holby City have had a somewhat unpleasant misogynistic undertone to their portrayal of women that want high powered careers and motherhood.
It very much seems to signal that any woman that dares to try and make it in a man's world must be punished be losing their children.
Kent said after Jac had Emma that he didn't want to give the impression that a woman can't have a career and a baby. But by showing Jac unable to bond with Emma and Jonny go after custody constantly citing her working hours and that the baby spent more time with the Nanny leading to Jac giving her up and then showing Grace rebelling against Connie because she doesn't get enough attention and then Connie giving her up - that is EXACTLY the message he was sending out. That a woman can't do have or do both and will ultimately fail, probably at both.
And yet, as soon as Jonny got sole custody, not a word about his working hours (he also had a responsible position) and he also seemed to go out to the Pub with his mates all the time with no mention of him not getting to see the baby. We now have the same thing with Fletch - he's the sole carer for 4 children under the age of about 12 and yet does a full time job and is constantly out on the piss with no hint of finding it hard to cope or others judging him.
It stinks quite frankly.

Also not a fan of Dixie despite having loved the actress in other work. Anybody else remember her in Corrie in the 80s and then Families?
Dixie always thinks she's right, judges others, is bad tempered and then feels affronted if anybody gets ticked off with her. She had a problem with Ian because he didn't just roll over from all her constant criticism.
I agree that her possessive behaviour towards Jeff in both life and death was really out there, unlikeable and made it hard to sympathise with her when she died.
Rita is also a jumped up annoyance.

I haven't seen it yet, pretty much gave up the will to watch after that dreadful episode set in Bucharest, they are all sitting on the hard drive: but i gather it was another stand alone, experimental episode written and directed in the style of fim noir.
I will try and watch it, because i like ethan, Hansenn and be interested to see the 'experiment' but it seems to have been universally hated on DS.
Can't help thinking 'Holby sin City' would have been a better tag line for an advertising campaign for HC.

Have they explained who did help Connie's friend to die or just forgotten about it once she was cleared? He had more than 2 of those tablets in his blood stream so who gave them to him given they weren't prescribed (so not a Nurse as part of his official drugs) and not Connie?
