I often wonder whatever became of characters in EastEnders that once they left, were never seen or heard of again. Such as Tricky Dicky Cole and Matthew Rose and the di Marcos.
Matthew Rose lived in the square from August 1997 to Feb 2000. In Feb 1999 he was stitched up by Steve Owen over the death of Saskia and Matthew lived every day in fear, as he helped dispose of the body. He stayed with Lenny in Albert Square and was pushed around by Steve. In August 1999 when the body was found Matthew and Teresa di Marco ran away but Matthew was arrested when Steve grassed him up. Matthew was later found guilty while Steve walked away scot free. However Matthew was later released in December 1999 I think because Steve's fingerprints were found on the ashtray. Yet no retrial. Matthew vowed revenge on Steve and blocked his toilets and smashed his flat up. And in early February 2000 he turned up at his nightclub and pretended there was going to be a suicide pact. Matthew demanded £10'000. He then said to Teresa that he was leaving Walford for good, she asked him to stay but he couldn't live next to Steve, and be reminded day by day of Saskia so walked out that night into the night, never to return. He did somehow find out about Steve's sudden death in 2002 so sent a "Rot In Hell" card. I suppose Matthew went to live in another part of England and left London altogether.
The di Marco's left for Leicester in August 2000 apart from Beppe, until 2002 when his mum Rosa died. I think Gianni, Teresa and Nicki have truly left Walford far behind.
In July 1994, nasty market inspector Tricky Dicky Cole's past came back to haunt him, Ian Beale heard from Sanjay Kapoor, Cole's best friend that Cole had left Doncaster under a cloud in 1989. Turned out Cole had accepted bribes as a councillor and stitched up Neil Bradley. Ian traced Neil, told him that Cole lives in Albert Square, Walford, London. Ian then returned to London. He pretended to be into photography so got Cole to pose. Ian then confronted Cole about his past and said he tracked Neil down, and posted the letter to him, with the photo of Cole. Cole saw him do it so ran off and late that night, Cole only told Sanjay that he was going away, he said he has resigned from the market inspector's job and that Sanj can stay in the flat until his solicitor sells it for him. Sanj then realised Cole was not coming back. Cole said he won't miss the narrow minded people of Albert Square and then drove off into the night, never to return.
I suppose he moved to another area of England, got another market inspectors job and carried on being Tricky Dicky, chasing women and being a nasty wind up merchant.
