One of my fave ever films and while it was a comedy movie I did notice several observations. Good that we can point these out without the highly irritating "it is only a movie you know".
One thing I always noticed was Miranda always seemed to be suspicious of "Mrs Doubtfire" unaware it was her estranged husband dressed in convincing drag as he was also an actor and his brother was a make up artist. Miranda found something odd about Mrs Doubtfire that she could not figure out.
And the court ruling near the end of the film when the judge said his behaviour in cross dressing was "peculiar and harmful behavior". The judge must have heard that as Mrs Doubtfire, Daniel Hillard tried to poison his wife's boyfriend with pepper knowing he was allergic to it. In the end Miranda had the ruling appealed when Daniel got a TV show as Mrs Doubtfire and knew he was a loving father.
I loved the scene when as Mrs Doubtfire, Hillard gave Pierce Brosnan the Heimlich Maneuver, and they fell down and his mask came off partially. The look on Miranda's face was a picture when she realised it was her husband dressed in drag.

I watched this film on Friday night actually, the first time I've ever watched it (I know, I'm ashamed) and my favourite part was when Mrs Doubtfire's bag was almost grabbed by a man on the street and she replies "broke my bag the b*stard!". Just made me LOL a bit. I've actually found the scene on YouTube.

Watched last time probably for the 50th time ever, I really liked it and reading online about it, it transpires there were several re-writes and a number of possible endings. The one we see is where the Judge acts quite leniently as he could have had Daniel imprisoned and one version had Stu visit Daniel in the 'nuthouse' to gloat that he had got Miranda.
Theres also a lot of missing footage featuring the neighbour who despised Daniel but loves Mrs D, Daniel of course uses this to his advantage by giving the neighbour some gardening tips, which go on to destroy the beautiful plants in her garden. I think all the missing stuff is on the DVD.
I read the book at school around the time of the film and its much darker, Daniel and Miranda are awful to each other, which does nobody any good really. I like the bittersweet film ending which confirms that they are never ever getting back together but they will work well as a team to look after the kids.
CAEF-interesting point about Miranda being suspicious, I think she is certainly having heightened feelings at the start, probably because Daniel kept crank calling her with terrible applicants.
There's also a fantastic scene in the kitchen where she is telling Mrs D about the fake older sister that the Court Liaison Officer met, this was, of course, Mrs D, but luckily she called her 'Miss Hillard' so Miranda doesn't work it out, but there is a wonderful moment where Sally Fields is staring straight into Robin Williams' eyes and delivering her lines about this woman being "older", the irony being that Fields is 5 years older than Williams (and this showed).
The saddest part of this is that Robin isn't here anymore to make the sequel he wanted to do.

He was about 40 in 1993 and she at least 44 or 45. I so wish they had made a scene inbetween the restaurant scene and the court scene where Miranda got home and was aghast at the revelation that Mrs D was her ex hubby in drag and had had her fooled, and Daniel went round to try and explain but she told him to do one. The DVD did have a small scene where Daniel was probably doing that and told his neighbour about dog piss on her plants. I loved the refs to the dildo and Miranda's crabs, very few youngsters would have understood the dialogue. And when Mrs D said she cannot take her medicine orally, well maybe everyone thought she sniffed it up her nose.

There is a scene back at the house, its on Youtube. The kids are in one of the upstairs bedrooms but all we can hear is Daniel and Miranda rowing downstairs by the front door. I think it was one of the original endings before they wrote the scene where Mrs D becomes a TV star.
scene starts at 6 minutes.

I suppose we can regard that scene as our "head canon" and say that is what happened that night after Miranda saw Daniel's mask ripped halfway down his face and found out the truth in the restaurant.

Watching the film now as an adult, and one who was had the pain of parents divorcing, I see all the pathos and drama. But it doesn't spoil the film for me, it seems to actually improve it.
I also get all the jokes now, whereas the ones about crabs etc washed over my head!

The judge gave Daniel supervised visitation rights on a Saturday, meaning he would be watched by an officer when he spends time with the children. I wonder if that officer was Mrs Selner. So obviously the judge thought Hillard was a risk to his kids but Miranda had the verdict overturned esp after Daniel said she knew the truth but let him pass that despicable sentence.
I remember when Marcus Selby in Corrie did what Daniel did with the cake and mentioned Mrs Doubtfire.
And when Kat Moon called her gran "You are Mrs Doubtfire" demanding she looks after her kids for a time.
