A lot of comments on other sites, FB pages, usually negative, centre on viewing figures. A lot of people claim Eastenders is crap under the new man, and refer to viewing figures to try and prove their point.
A company called BARB collate them, and its very easy to use their site to look things up.

You may have seen me quote figures previously from their site. I check it periodically and whilst there are less people watching the soaps than 10 or 20 years ago, there are plenty of reasons why. More channels to choose from, other ways to view TV (Netflix etc) and people are generally busier than they were before.
The truth is Eastenders is doing fine, it sometimes beats Corrie and has peaked at over 8 million earlier this year. Anything around 6.7-7.5 million seems to be its natural home. Add a few hundred thousand watching on iPlayer and you get a healthy figure. SOC is playing the long game here, he's stripping it back to its origins and in time I think we'll see some great storylines as well as some very realistic elements returning.
If anyone should be worried its Emmerdale. Worst figure I could find in 2016 was 4.5 million and 12 months later its still pitching around that ballpark with the odd episode peaking above 5 million. Iain McWhatsit has not improved the show and if anything its is basically trading on past glories. Yes the Ashley storyline was good but that was down to John and Charlotte's acting. With John now gone I can't see them winning any more awards. I don't even make a conscious effort to watch it now.
