Just so we don't get in the way of any 2017 discussions, thought I would start a thread here for the current run on ITV3 of classic episodes.
-Loving the way bits of 1986 link so well into 2017
-Love the way scenes are well written and well filmed, no fancy shmancy camera work
Hilda's little speech to Mike about Val was lovely and I liked the way the camera closed in on her whilst she talked about Val, it probably isn't true that she predicted the twins

A few nice points from yesterdays pair of episodes;
1-The scene with Gail at Ivy's front door, a studio scene but they had a car parked outside, making it realistic, they just wouldn't make the effort today
2-nice scene with Sally and Jenny, seems they used to be quite friendly. Jenny's line about never getting married made me chuckle.
3-Park scene with Gail and Audrey, this is St John's Gardens, literally a 2 minute walk from the old Studios, very closely filmed presumably as the public would have been walking past them.

I saw those gardens when I was in Manchester a few years ago.
1986 was the last full year we had Hilda Ogden as she left On Xmas Day 1987, just a few days before New Years Day 1988.
They may be up to 1987 and 1988 soon.

Still need to watch the classics. Wish they would repeat them in the evening.

I'm recording them on my HDD recorder.
Realised another link tonight, we have Susan marrying the much older factory owner,Baldwin, in 1986 and Jenny marrying the aged Jonny in 2017.

Another great episode, a brilliant scene with Hilda, Kevin, Sally and her awful parents. Watching the 2017 episodes where she becomes Mayor of Weatherfield just shows how far she has come since that young woman whose Mam used to take her dole money off her to give to her Dad for booze.

As Terry the Tiger said, these episodes are Grrrrrrreat, and they only serve to highlight even further just what a shambolic mess Corrie (& the other main soaps) have become in their transparent attempts to chase ratings, childish Twitter followers, & meaningless awards.
Kev's stag night in the Rovers was brilliant. No drama, no vendettas, no murders, no rapings, just good quality character-driven scenes.
Watching these wonderful episodes full of folk you actually care about makes you realise just how piss poor the soaps really are today.

A wry smile when Hilda said that you only get married once.

This was the year Pat Phoenix died.
I do feel that while Elsie was a major character, in the 1970s it did feel like The Elsie Tanner Show.
