Apparently I watched a clip from the 2001 episodes and it said that Susan was believed to have crashed into a fence and suffered fatal injuries. Not sure if the true circumstances around her death was explained but something doesn't fit. Also people on DS are correct for once and are picking holes which I agree with. Some say that her death was an accident and not suspicious.
In 2001 we certainly had the internet and I am sure Billy would have researched the incident and twigged that it was Susan Barlow from Weatherfield, and then in 2014, he moves there and lives next to the Barlow family. May have surmised that Susan was from another Barlow family but surely the press releases would have said her father Ken.

It’s a retcon to make Billy into some scally and potentially write him out of the show.
Yes we had the internet in 2001 but not nearly as accessible as it is now. Billy would have needed to have logged on from a house or library/Internet cafe kind of place and I reckon he wasn’t the kind of person to have a house or a library membership back then!
All I remember is Susan crashing the car, dying and Adam surviving. I did have some thought about it happening north of the border but I must have been wrong and it happened in England.
My question is how come the PI found it and neither of them.
It’s also intriguing that Adam hasn’t twigged anything. Surely the date your beloved mother dies would be etched into your memory for life and the coincidence of someone torching a car with accident damage on the same day must ring some bells.
I’m now wondering which Barlow is going to crack this first. Adam or Peter. Peter knows this all unravelled when Billy confessed to battering him and being Susan’s twin I reckon once he hears the date and the fact there was a car accident that he will cotton on.

The internet was rubbish back then... I know... It took ages to download a still photo of porn...
By the time it was fully loaded... I'd already finished...
And it took me and hour to illegally download a single from Napster... Ahhh, them were the days...
P.S. By single I mean a song, a record or a choonio... Not a fag from Abdul in the corner shop...
P.P.S. By fag I don't mean the American term for a gay...
Seriously... What do you lot take me for...? Jeeze...

The internet was bloody brilliant in 2001.
I joined eBay that year, and nobody knew what they had or what anything was worth. Other than us massive sneaky anoraks. A shady guy like me could clean up with collectibles. Now every fecker's a bloody expert and a bedroom bandit.
The rare footy stuff I bought back then for peanuts was totally joyous, I thought it would never end. (sighs) Paid £4 for a 1920s Player's Pass that I sold for £600 a couple of years back. Picked up pre-war buttonhole badges for less than the price of a pint - you try getting one on there for south of a ton these days!
Totally cleaned up on vintage programmes too, which kept me in ale money for about ten years or more!!
They were great, great days.

The first ever thing I bought/won on Fleabay... Was a 1970's Whizzer & Chips annual... I loved that comic back when I was a nipper... So this was a must have...
It's still in the loft somewhere...

Weird seeing Joanna Foster (Barry Foster’s* daughter) in the role as those of us watching Classic Corrie in 1986 are seeing established Susan actresss Wendy Jane Walker!
*he played Van der Valk

Every decade or so they seem to retcon stuff surrounding Susan Barlow, dating right back to when she "aborted" Adam back in 1987.
First we have her aborting Adam, only for it to turn out it wasn't true 12 years later, even though in that time Ken Barlow visited Susan off-screen so you would think he'd notice he had a grandson.
Now it turns out Billy (and his gang) were responsible for the accident by driving it her car, even though she lost control at the wheel whilst trying to leave town.
No doubt in ten years it will turn out Susan didn't die at all, the Joanna Foster Susan was a fraud. The story will see the return of the 1980s Susan as played by Wendy Jane Walker.

Or that Peter and Susan had different fathers even though they were twins. Ken was Peter's but Dennis Tanner was Susan's father lol.

It's definitely a retcon but a fairly minor one, the Police might just have assumed no other vehicle was involved, especially if driving conditions were bad (it was February), there were no witnesses and very little CCTV back then, at least compared to now.
Anyway, since the whole 2001 storyline was a huge retcon of Susan's last storyline and Ken.mentioning seeing her from time to time, I.just find it funny that people are getting worked up about retconning a retcon.
I do agree about Adam not reacting.more to the date as yes, the date your Mother died is burned on your memory. You hear the date and it is the first thing you think.of.
That said, he did repeat the date when he was representing Billy at the Police station but that questioning was about the armed robbery, no traffic accident was mentioned. He asked later if there was anything else and Billy said no so I'd say he did.make the connection but then dismissed it as a coincidence.
