Like Blackburn I feel Kate Oates has outstayed her welcome. She has increased the amount of gangsters, druggies and psychos to the show and the graphic raunchiness and mentions of toilet habits.

I agree It`s a shame because she showed so much promise at the start. And whoever takes over from Kate.,....can they please change the fecking opening titles. Getting so sick of `em now.

Some are moaning that Emmerdale got no awards this year at the BAFTAS but I am not surprised, the show has been pretty dire recently.
Far cry from the days where the most dramatic thing to happen was Amos Brearly dropping a beer glass on the floor.

Ed has changed so much, I don't recognise it, I want sheep and cows not gays and gangsters, I have said before Amos would turn in his grave.

I think it's the most consistent one of the big three.

I will give it that yes but I hate the way she has demonised Robert Sugden. He is the son of two originals, Jack and Pat Sugden even if Sarah was his mother in any way but blood. Pat died in a car crash when Knobert was a baby.

Pat died in a car crash when Knobert was a baby. I hate that as well. But then one of my main gripes with the soaps is why virtually all new characters that come in are bad.

Yes, all new characters have hidden agendas and are out for revenge or are just plain unlikeable.

And some are just plain psychopathic e.g. Cameron, the mad detective who burnt down the cottage, Declan. Now we have a sex offender in Lachlan. Emma Barton would have left James to die. Too many to mention!

That is why so many say the Emmerdale as we know it began on 30th December 1993, the day the plane crashed into the village.

I am actually a fan of Kates. I think out of the big 4 , DLT sorry DTC (the messiah) the pratt in a hat and Birkwood, Oates is the best Producer at present. I like how she builds a story very slowly and then it explodes on the screen. Emmerdale are probably the best of the soaps for story telling. I hope Kate stops a while longer. IMO she is the best producer since Gavin, although nobody comes close to Mr Blyth.

I think for the most part it's been great under Kate Oates. It's the only soap over the past year or so where it's still watchable even during quieter periods. There's usually something in an episode that'll grab my attention, whether it's making me laugh or cry. I wouldn't say 2014 was as brilliant as 2013 was - those siege episodes really set the bar high for me, along with Gennie's car crash - but it was still a really strong year for the show.
I like that there isn't really a dominant character or family at the moment. Everyone's getting a fair share of the action and that's the way it should be in an ensemble show. The Alicia/Lachlan story has been one of my favourites this year - Natalie Anderson has been excellent and Thomas Atkinson has to be one of the best younger actors I've seen in soap for years.
I'd like her to stick around into 2016 if the stories are there but with it now being two years since both her and Blackburn took over their respective soaps I wouldn't be completely surprised to hear news of her standing down by the end of the year. It'll be interesting to see who would take over from her as I can't really think of any obvious candidates, although Oates herself wasn't that well-known before and has done wonderful things, so an unknown person stepping into the role isn't always a bad thing.
