So we have seen some big names trot about Walford in the last eighteen months, apparently some more big names will be appearing soon.
What are your opinions on big names appearing?

It's good for the odd guest appearance e.g. June Whitfield this week coming, and obviously Danny Dyer has been popular, but if they did it too often it wouldn't seem so special

So the likes of Timothy West and June Whitfield I understand. It's when they go for the really obscure ones and just cast based on celebrity status rather than acting ability that annoys me. to be fair though, Eastenders doesn't seem to do this as much as other soaps.

Timothy West and Danny Dyer have been successful but it's important to get a balance. There are great actors out there waiting for their big break, look at Lacey Turner.
The more 'celebrity' ones like Denise Van Outen don't work IMO. We don't want EastEnders casting a Southern Kym Marsh Ryder Lomas Hooper.

My gripe with Van Outen in Eastenders is that its yet another Essex person going into the show. Its meant to be in London featuring London people!
Also she can't act.

80% of the EE cast are Essex born, Sam Strike, him who plays Kush, Jasmine Arnfield, Kellie Bright etc.
The big name stars to do guest roles are Edward Woodward and Andrew Sachs.

Yes I agree that they should just get good actors regardless of whether they're "celebrities" or not, and not get someone just because they're a celebrity and then they might be rubbish, *cough* Denise van outen *cough*

Yes DVO is just wrong for EastEnders, I really hope that they don't extend her run. Besides Max needs a long break from women, say two to three years.

Is Andrew Sachs really a big name? i liked Edward Woodwards role as it was great finding out more about Patrick's early years. I also liked Theo, the lad Chelsea dated for a short while.

There nothing wrong wit it but it has to be the right person, some works other don't DVO for example is not a good actress, she just playing a fictional version of herself it was pretty cheesy viewing, guest stints are ok as well but not something that should be used at the expense of permanent characters.

I don't have anything against them but I can't say they excite me much either. However I do think they have gone way overboard in both Coronation Street and EastEnders recently.

Mostly no. Julia Smith wasn't keen on celebrity castings as it takes away from the immersive experience. We talk about Denise Van Outen and not Karin as an example (terrible actress). I have no issue occasionally and only if nobody else fitted the bill. But making characters for celebs I don't agree with. Takes away from the experience and we them as the celeb not the character.

Andrew Sachs is only really famous for Manuel in Fawlty Towers, he'd be little known without that role.
