Amen Holez.
And for a soap in its 30th year, it hasn`t got off to a promising start has it. We`re in H&A`s 4th month now, but you wouldn`t know it for its snoozefest storylines so far. Pick up the pace H&A for gawds sake.

Also the Alf storyline shits over the history of the show.
H&A is the worst show on TV.

It used to be lovely until about 2004/2005.

And other than the blink & you missed it Martha Stewart storyline, I don’t believe there will be any more ‘special’ anniversary type story lines or return of old characters etc. I have seen it mentioned on another fan site, by ‘someone in the know’, that apparently “there was resistance from people further up in the network in regards to making a big fuss about the 30th anniversary, in fact they were dead-set against it. In their eyes, it would ‘age’ the show & it would lose its younger audience. I understand that there have been discussions over returning characters at various points only for them to be knocked on the head by those further up the hierarchy.” If this is indeed the case, it is very baffling & disappointing given so many other shows are proud of their heritage!

Neighbours really pushed the boat out for its 30th in 2015. Corrie did for its 50th in 2010. Emmerdale did for its 40th in 2012. Seems to confirm my theory that the H&A producers dont want to know about pre 2009 H&A.

Wow to the πth power aussielad. Such arrogance from the higher ups. When I think of how Neighbours went all out for their 30th bringing back past characters, and great storylines, it makes me furious that h&a don't give a Tinkers cuss about the show. And they wonder why their ratings are falling - and continue to do so. I am still furious that they cancelled h&a the early years. The higher ups need to go, and make way for people who would love the job. And I bet they would do it for half the salary.

Is H&A too late to be saved?

Is H&A too late to be saved? I am not sure what its ratings are like in overseas markets, but in Aust H&A regularly wins its 7pm timeslot with, I believe, something like 1million viewers on Ch7's main channel (very healthy numbers for Aust). This gives fuel for the powers that be to argue that the current storylines/formula (crime/drugs/love triangles etc) is working well & nothing needs to change. For them the good ship H&A just keeps rolling along. It's obvious that their target audience is the young crowd these days & they aren't really concerned with long time viewers or the shows history/roots etc. Neighbours, on the other hand, has pretty dismal ratings here in Aust. As soon as extra digital channels were introduced, Network Ten were quick to relegate it to its digital ch11 where, in its 6:30pm timeslot, it is up against the evening News on Ch7 & Ch9 + even its own Current Affairs Panel show 'The Project' on Ch10. I think Neighbours rates only about 2 or 300,000 viewers nightly & you can safely say that its continued existence is due to its overseas popularity, particularly of course the UK (I am always interested to see on another UK fan site I am on that there is so much more interest in the Neighbours forums than the H&A ones - the opposite seems to apply here in Aust!).

I think Neighbours is made for the overseas market, tailored for the UK audience and Channel 5/Viacom have shown their loyalty to the show and signed up for another 4 years. It is quite interesting comparing Neighbours to our Coronation St, where as Corrie has got a lot darker, dramatic and hard hitting even depressing, Neighbours seems to have a better balance of dark and shade and manages to get the normal comedic scenes which Corrie used to do and was known for down to a fine art. I used to say Neighbours was the Corrie of Oz without horrible houses and ugly people.

Thanks so much for that aussielad. I saw in that article that Melissa George will be included in that special. I don't know why - because she has done nothing but trash H&A at any given opportunity since she left. Maybe she needs the cash

She has been nothing but ungrateful & sour towards H&A, the show which gave her a start in the business. It will be interesting to see what she has to say - maybe she has finally realised she should try & rebuild her reputation with Aust viewers (but she never will with me!)
