Producer John Yorke's first episode was in February 2000 and I noticed the change in character Phil's nature almost immediately. From a man whose life was in a mess over the Grant/Kathy debacle of late 1999 to an increasingly violent criminal whose crimes started to stretch more than just a Del Boy style. The Slaters arrived in September 2000 so casting must have started around April or May 2000.
Some may disagree but I find Yorke is out of his depth and he has a very weird view on "strong women". He seems to think they are gobby, foul and tarty, aka Kat Slater. Big Mo was a gobby fishwife. When the Slaters arrived in 2000 it was Battersbyesque. Also he seems obsessed with gangsters, hence why in 2001 Phil became a one man crimewave.
He left in 2002, thank god but returned in late 2017 and is trying to recreate the past by bringing back annoying Jean, fishwife Mo and Kat. Kat Moon was much nicer than Kat Slater. And he has made the show GangsterEnders again. I find him a one trick pony TBH.
I am a huge supporter of EastEnders but I draw the line when it comes to producers who have no clue.

JY has to look forward and not back. Yes he is allowed to bring back past characters as all soaps do but he has to also build the show up again by bringing in new blood. Past EP's have done that and then when the new one come in they drop them. He seems to be building on the Taylors which was a SOC introduction so that's positive.. With the number of returns of he has in line I have my doubts unless the writing is exceptional or why get rid of Lauren, Abi and Ben? I just hope the end of the siege isn't a damp squib.

I am past caring now, i just want the storyline to end, otherwise i may have to fast forward through those scenes.

It really hasn't gone terribly well for him has it? I was one of the few on DS to flag up that this wasn't going to solve the shows issues but got laughed and sneered at whilst most were declaring him a genius and sure to be the shows saviour.
Yorke's era in the early 90's may have been considered brilliant by many fans but it wasn't without its issues and as usual Philth is at the forefront and centre of them in that era.
I immediately questioned his decision to axe Ben, Abi and Lauren three characters that had grown up on the show and were the next generation of important families on the show.
What have we got in return? Yes bringing Mel back was a risk, but as it is a good actress I just hope she can push through the shit story she has been given to re-introduce her and hope she settles back in.
Halfway, Tiffany, Big Mo, Jean are these good replacements? Perhaps in Yorke's head they are but I don't think the public or any sensible minded person does.
Masood returns with a personality transplant turning him into the fool.
Yes Mariam and Arshad are possibly the best thing that JY has managed to do so far but is that really enough compensation?
Kat's return is looking and sounding ridiculous if rumours are true and I for one am not looking forward to it.

His axings have been questionable but he must have reasons for them. I will wait and see what the returnees bring with them. I always disliked Mel and still do. He has fecked up Masood but I want him to come back to normality and I think he will. Mariam is working on him. Halfway is character waiting to be developed IMO. I always liked Jean but I suspect her and Mo will gang up on Stacey's side of the argument between her and Martin.

I liked what episodes I have seen of his first era, however I feel EE is stuck in such a bad state, that it goes beyond any EP.
The show hasn't in my opinion been itself since the Lorraine Newman era. I don't think she in anyway wrecked the show, but made it dull, which is why we had the dangerous era of DTC, and him rewriting history, added with sensationalism and block storytelling. Moving on we had sean O'Connor who I honestly believed just wanted to try and bring things back to normality, however he did this without a care for damage control, loosing him his job (RIP).
And so this brings us onto Yorke who seems to be going back to his shitty Gangland stuff, which could work but I don't think many people want to see it.I was a huge fan of Johnny Allen as a kid, and loved the 2005-2006 EE. However I even find the whole Aiden storyline boring.
I also think everyone forget that EE more than any other soap including Corrie live in the past to such a extent, they feel the need to recreate there best hits sometimes with the same characters. In addition to this they feel the need more than any other soap to bring back old favourites for a quick spike in the ratings before things settle down again.
Sadly the state of the show has meant it has become my third soap. (I only watch the main three, can't bring myself to watch Hollyoaks without cringing 😂)

Kat Slutter. That is what Yorke wants, not Kat Moon but Kat Slutter.
Sorry but there is only so long a producer can use the "I have just started my role so give me a chance" thing. Usually they pick up the baton right away and their work becomes noticeable right away. When a new manager takes over a workplace, their influence becomes instant so it is no different for soap producers.
