If I was producer, I would let bygones be bygones and ask Bruce Jones to come back. 11 years since his sacking but surely a lot of the crew have left by then, so it can pave the way for Bruce to return as Les.
Bruce will be 65 this month, seems like only yesterday he was in Corrie in 1997. I do think Bruce Jones played himself a lot in Corrie, Bruce Jones played Bruce Jones.

I couldn`t bear either of them.

When the Battersby's came into the show in 1997, it was a breath of fresh air to get a rough uncouth family for once. They made Rab C Nesbitt seem posh. They kept the inside of Number 5 a bit of a crap heap, full of old junk.
As Lou says, they are a family you would tend to get in a working class backstreet as opposed to the poshos.

Bruce did the unforgivable....he trashed the Corrie brand. I doubt if he can ever atone for that. Yet he is still slagging them off - especially when he`s had a few. And with his history of drinking - he`d be a loose cannon on set. His time on a reality show ( I think it was Wife Swap) didn`t exactly put him in a very good light either. He had a chance to jump start his career over it - and he bolloxed it up. I doubt if he`ll ever get another chance anywhere. Not even panto.

I saw him on Celebrity Big Brother and he came across just as uncouth as Les Battersby. Also Bruce has had lots of form for drinking and drink driving, also he abused his wife I think. Did you know that Bruce found a dead body in 1977, a prostitute who was killed by Peter Sutcliffe? Bruce will be 65 this month so at least will get his pension but he once had it all and lost it all so I doubt he will be back in Corrie again. No doubt his drinking will send him to an early grave. Like Bruce Jones, actor Steve McFadden in EE seems to play himself to a degree, and while on panto leave, on his days off he is probably visiting trannies in car parks in the sticks.

I read his Autobiography a few years ago... Basically it was a looooooong love letter to his ex-wife... Begging for another chance...
There were some interesting bits... Like CEF says about him finding a Ripper victim... Plus bits about Corrie and other acting jobs he has had... But the stuff about his wife was just cringeworthy...

Maybe he was looking for "business" on the streets the night he found the Sutcliffe victim. I have read a bit of his autobiography and it smacks of desperation.

They should recast the part at least. This actor would be great for the role. Even if it means getting closure.

Oh wow - the likeness is uncanny. Who is that? I bet he could be a better Les than Bruce. And be more believable too.

He looks like a cross between Chris Tarrant and Les Dennis. A good choice if Les Battersby was to be recast.
