So many ifs and buts surrounding this bequest that Annie made to Betty in 1984. Until 1995, the pub was owned by the brewery and Annie owned the tenancy. In 1984 Annie left Billy in charge of the pub and Billy took over the tenancy in August 1984. The pub regretted this when Billy did so many underhand things, and was forced out by the brewery by mutual agreement, and then left for Jersey in late 1984. Shortly afterwards, Bet took over the tenancy. In 1995 the brewery wanted to sell the pub. Bet wanted to go into partnership with Rita but Rita knew that Bet had not made a penny profit during her 10 years as landlady. And all this time Betty was supposed to be the real owner.

Terrible twist, and clearly makes no sense with history we saw on the show. i0.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/facebook/001/235/876/d3f.jpg

Betty's death was pretty terrible, the only good thing was bringing back Bill Kenwright as Gordon Clegg, as he was close to Betty Driver on real life. They couldn't even be bothered giving her an on-screen funeral, and most of it seemed all about Phil Collinson's pet character St. Stella and her worry about losing the pub.

Yet a nobody like Luke Britton got a bigger send off. St. Ella was certainly a fave.
