This is possibly the hardest, for me it was between Annie, Hilda, Bet, Ena and Elsie. I chose the wonderful Ena Sharples played by Violet Carson.

Yes Ena Sharples. In the 1960s and 1970s Ena losing her hairnet was a major storyline.

When we say most Iconic, I try and think of there Importance today. Like if we mentioned them, would the general public know who they are? like for instance Den and Angie in EE.
So thinking about it, even though he isn't one of my favourites I feel obliged to go with Ken, as he is Iconic, probably not the best character out of the show. However I remember a poll being run by ITV or someone a few years ago, and Blanche was voted most iconic.
So growing up with Ken I'm voting him, and I would be sad when he finally comes to leave the show.

My vote went to R Hilda. It was a tough choice between Ena and Hilda, but then chose Hilda

The thing is....with Corrie nearing their 60th Birthday, there have been so many iconic characters over the decades. It`s tough just to choose one.
Bet Lynch was iconic. So was Annie Walker, and Eddie Yeates. Then there`s Alan Bradley, Fred Elliot...even Curly Watts to some extent. Wow there are so many.

Agreed that's the problem I faced toπ I would also say that Peter Barlow is a modern Icon for the soap

As I've just said on the EE poll, iconic to me is something very specific. It's not favourite, best, most popular, long standing or even most associated with. It goes beyond that, seeping into public consciousness so even people that aren't interested.in whatever the iconic person.or image comes from instantly recognise it.
Like the Daleks. Marilyn Monroe in the white dress, Ginger Spice in the Union Jack dress, JR Ewing in his stetson etc.
Corrie has more of them than any of the other soaps. I'd say Bet Lynch, Hilda Ogden, Mavis Riley and Ena Sharples all qualify as iconic. Despite his longevity, I'm not sure Ken does though I can sees an argument for it.

For me, I think it's got to be Hilda, especially if pictured with her rollers and Muriel.

I was probably too young and distracted to appreciate her first time around, but watching the Classic Corries now, I absolutely love Mavis. A truly brilliant character.
Massive bike though.

I'm finding that with Classic Corrie, I'm interested in completely different stories and characters to first transmission. Characters I found boring or annoying then, I love now. But I guess that's the difference between viewing as a girl in her mid teens and a woman in her mid 40s. I just wasn't mature enough to 'get' the likes of Mavis, Alf and especially Percy back then.
