I was probably too young and distracted to appreciate her first time around, but watching the Classic Corries now, I absolutely love Mavis. A truly brilliant character. Massive bike though. I'm finding that with Classic Corrie, I'm interested in completely different stories and characters to first transmission. Characters I found boring or annoying then, I love now. But I guess that's the difference between viewing as a girl in her mid teens and a woman in her mid 40s. I just wasn't mature enough to 'get' the likes of Mavis, Alf and especially Percy back then. Spot on Kitty, that's exactly what I was trying to say through last night's beer goggles. Back in my teens I found the likes of Mavis, Alf and Percy ruddy annoying, but really appreciate them now. The woman who plays Mavis acts the character in such a wonderful, yet still understated way, the current cast of Corrie should hang their heads at the tripe they think passes for acting - bar the very small few who are actually efficient at their craft and carry the latter day wage thieves (Leanne, Roy, David, Peter & Sally spring to mind). In my book, a good actor makes you believe they're not acting, but are actually that character.

Speaking of classic CS we need more of this:- Annie Walker and Nellie Harvey from the laughing Donkey and Ladies Licenced Victuallers, . Can you image Toyah in this club? ?

Bet Lynch/Gilroy and Stella Rigby were another two rivals that I can`t imagine Toyah being part of.

The first one I can remember that isn't sarcastic...

Maurice Jones. Gotta be. He was a ledge. He built the posh side of the street in 1989.

Yeah I've gone for Hilda too. She just screams 'Corrie' to me.
Great posts on here by the way, especially enjoyed reading how people's views have changed on characters as they've gotten older. Very true that.
Caught 'Tenable' which is on in the afternoons one day this week. The team has to get Top 10's right and one of this episode's top 10's was the most appearances by Corrie characters, Ken naturally came top but I was quite surprised to see Gail in second place! Shows you how many big storylines she's had over the years doesn't it? Yet I still wouldn't have picked her and plumped for Hilda, even though Gail is 'Corrie' too.

Hilda did return in a telethon in 1990 but the cast then came out of character to present the cheque for charity so broke the 4th wall. So not sure if that mini episode is considered canon. The 1998 video is I think, where Hotpot Queen visited Hilda in Derby.
