I know H&A has been going through a bit of a crazy patch with endless Braxton crime nonsense but I always preferred it in the 1990s over Neighbours. Neighbours was quite bleak in comparison to H&A which had more exciting storylines, and exciting teens, Neighbours just had boring teens and not much happened.
H&A began in Jan 1988 in Oz and I always go by the first Oz airdate as the UK showing s are just repeats of what has been shown in another country. 1988 Neighbours especially location wise was as generic as Corrie and EE, set in a suburb whereas H&A was the Knots Landing of Oz, exotic and vibrant.

Home and Away. But I gave up watching it back in 2013 after years of devotion towards it.

At the moment it`s Neighbours that`s my fave at the moment. But I will always have a soft spot for Home & Away. I watch both H&A and Neighbours at Oz pace, and last weeks episodes of H&A commemorating ANZAC`s Day was excellent.

Definitely Neighbours. Both shows aren't what they use to be due to all the great characters leaving, but I think Neighbours has a better balance of storylines and characters at the moment. Home & Away has become so ludicrous since the Braxtons began hogging the screen with their tedious crime storylines. And just how many bloody times do people go to hospital and get involved in accidents time after time on this show? Casey use to end up in hospital or prison every other week. Hannah was involved in a bus accident not too long ago that left her in a wheelchair, and only a few weeks later she was involved in a boat accident and nearly drowned . It's ridiculous.

I can`t stand Phoebe Nichols in H&A. I wish she`d leave as she adds absolutely nothing to the show. And I`m sick of H&A bringing in bad boys, and then redeeming them as fast as they can get away with. Case in point - Andy Barrett and Matt.

Yes, Phoebe is a whinge a minute. Although I do prefer her to her predecesoor Tamara, who I thought became ruined by the stupid love triangle with Kyle and Casey and was subsequently written out. But that's not saying much. I did sympathise with her slightly during the Stalker storyline, but generally I can't abide her. I don't like Ricky either. She's always handing out saintly advice as if she has any right to, but fails to see her own flaws. She also completely exploded at Denny because she kissed Ash... so?! That's her choice! I wanted Denny to turn around and pull her hair really hard . The bad boys on H&A are all clones. Andy, for example, is just a poor man's Brax except more stupid and obnoxious. I really wish they would stop bringing in these idiots from Mango River or whatever that place is called lol.

I don`t mind Ricky, but as a character she`s nothing without Brax. I think it`s only a matter of time before she leaves. What bugs me most of all about H&A is that there are a few interesting characters in the show that I`d like to see more character development on. For example - Dr Nate Cooper. I know he`s a very poor substitute for Sid. And now I read that Nate is leaving....yet another one who wants to give Hollywood a go. It ticks me off that actors use H&A as a pay cheque, and acting experience while they look for other roles elsewhere. To me it seems to be very disloyal.

At least on Neighbours, you got legends like Paul Robinson, who make the show worth watching. And you have real family units in the Willis and Turners, even if some of them are boring. I'm liking Paul's "cancer" storyline at the moment and the scheming of Terese's brother Nick. Also like Kyle Canning, Brenann, Toadie and Sonya.
H&A have no characters left that are worth watching, nor any family units. Good eye candy, but no good characters. The likes of Alf Stewart and Irene are wasted.

Agreed whole heartedly about Alf and Irene being wasted for the 'pretty ones'. There`s more depth and warmth in Irene, Marilyn, John and Alf that the whole lot of the teens put together. What I find funny about Terese Willis is that`s she`s so tiny (like me). I`m 5ft, but I bet she`s shorter than me. Anyway, just off the kitchen at their home they have a small laundry room with a stackable washer and dryer. I doubt if I could even reach the top to put wet clothes in to dryer - I`d need a stepladder. Terese`s brother Nick is a fantastic character....evil to the bone (and not to mention absolutely gorgeous too). I don`t know when or if he will ever be found out that he`s deliberately poisoning Paul with chemicals to fake leukemia, but I`m sure he won`t be sticking around when he is found out. Stefan Denis is brilliant in this storyline. I`m really enjoying it.

Lucy Addario is the worst producer ever, she has overtaken Susan Bower in showing the most contempt to fans. She has turned H&A into The Braxton Show that I only watch sporadically. I cannot wait for the Braxton era to be over as every time I tune in it seems to be yet another Braxton drug bust, enemy returning or revenge plot.
H&A was so much better before the River Boys came in.

Currently Neighbours, I've only just been able to start watching H+A again after several years when i would find it so dire i'd have to switch off half way through. Couldn't Teel any of the young girls or boys apart (still have that problem with some of them like Spencer, Matt, Oscar - maybe I'm just getting old!) and the sodding River Boys. I tuned in to see Casey cark it as he was the only one I could ever stand and don't find it painful to watch any more but it is far from 'must see tv'.
When H+A started though I much preferred it to Neighbours which was getting tired by then. H+A always seemed to have a slightly 'harder' edge back then despite being sunnier and prettier and having some almost saintly figures like Pippa. I think the fostering set up was genius - it gave a believable reason for high turnover of young characters all of whom could be very different in character type (even race) and have interesting, distinctive and sometimes traumatic back stories to explore.
My favourite characters were the Fishers - loved Alan, Bobby finding out who her parents were and building a relationship with Donald and the various Rebeccas turning up until she became a regular character. Her and Travis leaving and the introduction of the Sutherland is about when i stopped watching religiously and just became semi regular. always known what was happening from soap mags and the episodes i did catch but didn't bother to record when I was at work.
Neighbours seems to be on a high presently - see how long it lasts.

I loved the early H&A compared to the present ones. Years ago I remember reading that the producers killed off Tom Fletcher (Roger Oakley) because he was gay, and Pippa (Vanessa Dowling) quit soon after because she was so furious. I liked Pippa 2, but I never warmed to her like I did the original Pippa.

H&A was good from 1988 to 2004 and it started to become darker in 2005 but only very dark from 2011. H&A has had to change to survive but keep a lot of the light hearted ness it had 1988-2010.
I have often envisaged Ian Smith or Tom Oliver doing a cameo in Home And Away or Kate Ritchie in Neighbours, or Lynne McGranger in Neighbours, not as a spoof but in the real shows.

Neighbours seems to be on a high presently - see how long it lasts. I found Brax to be the most unlikeable out of the Braxton brothers. He is a bullying thug who expects people to live up to his ridiculous expectations even though he doesn't abide by them himself. A hypocrite at the highest degree and not to mention his treatment of Ricky is absolutely appalling. The actor is very good and has lots of charisma but the show sends out a horrible message depicting this type of character as the hero.
Heath was an alright character and I didn't mind him but I was never sold on his relationship with Bianca. I preferred Bianca with Liam and Heath was better with April.
Casey started off promising character but after a while descended into nothing more than the eternal victim. That charisma vacuum Kyle was always an unnecessary addition and just ended up being one Braxton too many.

Although I haven't watched either for years and years, Neighbours. Unfortunately I can't really remember much beyond: Paul Robinson being the Max Branning of Ramsay Street, Karl and Susan breaking up and getting back together constantly, Lou Carpenter and Harold Bishop being the best of friends and Drew dying.
