As much as I love EE, I do feel that Kat is a totally horrendous person now and the total blot on the show. She is almost 50 years old and is gobby, crude, rude, arrogant and very tarty. I knew this would happen when John Yorke bought her back the moment he stood in as temporary producer.

Yeah. One of the problems with John Yorke's reign in general is that he's tried to revert elements of the show back to the 2000/2001 era. Kat has reverted back to being an over-the-top, gobby cow, Mel has returned to the Square as the nightclub manager - which has reverted back to its old name E20, he's also reverted Ian Beale back to a childish man with a schoolboy crush on Mel while going out of his way to impress her at every turn, Billy has reverted back to being the Loser of the Square and always down on his luck... I do feel that multiple producers have failed Kat since returning under Bryan "Grim Reaper" Kirkwood. The Baby Swap was a terrible comeback storyline and then we had the ridiculous affair with Derek "The Toad" Branning... and don't get me started on the secret Slater son/twin brother of Zoe Slater, which DTC plucked out of the sky with some god awful retcon involving some nun . DTC's work came across like fan fiction at times, but that's a different conversation. Kirkwood and DTC were clearly unsure in what direction to take Kat, so they kept throwing her in the same repetitive stories and didn't allow her to organically develop in her second stint on the show. The problem is Kat hasn't developed at all as a character since becoming a mother. She is still "Kat the Slut"... that is her defining characteristic and it's become rather tedious to watch. Yes, we know Kat went through hell as a teenager and all the abuse she suffered - but we don't need to keep seeing the character go on a repetitive cycle of self-destruction. Becoming a mother should have made her want to change for the better and matured her. Of course, this is a soap and we need drama to keep the show going so Kat will always be damaged in some way or another, but she can be damaged without cheating all the time. It's time to move the character forward and explore new aspects of her without falling back into the old tropes.
