My mam always tells me she made a massive mistake not aborting me with a coat hanger. I always remind her of all the laughter I bring to her via my nightly phone call about the soaps. You'd have none of that mam, I remind her.
True, she says, but I'd still have my figure, my self respect, and be able to hold my head up down the bingo.

It is so great to learn about the history of medical science within a Drama .Another good episode tonight. I saw Steve Mc.Cann ( Dr. Turner) being interviewed on This Morning the other day. I don’t normally watch daytime TV but just happened to switch on. He talked about the beginnings of the Cervical Smear Test in 1964- ish and how important this was and is for women and this was the episode tonight. My Dad was a GP at the time so he must have been one of the first GPs to administer this. I can’t believe this is the year I got engaged! I find it great to see how medical science has evolved in our lifetime, well mine anyway. It’s very nostalgic for me as I also owned a Morris Minor, like Phyllis. Every one was nicknamed Moggie.

1964 was the year I was born, so it was brilliant to see how everyone lived during that time. I was disappointed that there is no romance for Phyllis Crane and Sgt Woolf. But it seems that there was more chemistry between Miss Higgins and Sgt Woolf. I never knew the SGT could be an old softy liking Patience Strong poems. My Mother was a fan of her work too - so were my Aunts. I recognised Miss Higgins straightaway as the temporary Sgt Noakes in 'Heartbeat'. She`s a terrific actress. Now that Miss Higgins has lost some of her starchiness - she`s a great character. No doubt there will be a wedding this Christmas episode. 'Call the Midwife' continues to be head and shoulders above every other drama on telly IMO. And it`s truly remarkable that CTM is in its 8th season, and shows no sign of being tired and boring. Long may it continue.

I was on the phone to one of my friends earlier tonight who was recently on holiday for a week on the Isle of Harris. She was telling me that the BBC were there and also on Lewis with cast and crew filming the Christmas Special of CTM. She couldn't believe how the huge trucks made it down the single track roads with only passing places. What takes them from Poplar to the Western Isles is beyond me, lovely though the islands are.

Just watched tonight's Call the Midwife and the excellent Karl (Robert Sugden) Davies was in the show. Nice to see him again.
