Bristol Rovers here. I would use the term "support" loosely. I'm not all that fussed about footy these days but my family are Rovers and it's fabulous winding my husband's City loving family and mates up safe in the knowledge that any retaliation isn't going to piss me off one jot while they get their red and white knickers in a twist

I bloody hate football for a very specific reason actually. I shall just add that everything you ever hear about footballers is ALL TRUE I don't hate football but I don't really get the point. Running up and down a field in the cold trying to kick a ball into a net holds no fascination for me. but I am pretty much like that with all sports and I am not a competitive person at all. Still I won't knock those who do enjoy it, they don't have to justify why they like it in my book and I likewise never feel the need to justify my interests.

To be honest, most sports sound rather simple on paper. Olympic Sprinting is basically men running up and down a track. Cricket is basically a man throwing a ball and another man hitting the ball with a bat. Rugby is basically men running up and down a field like football. Yet all these sports manage to entertain people to varying degrees. I just enjoy watching football when it is played with beauty and grace, nothing more easy on the eye than one-touch passing.
I wouldn't tar all footballers with the same brush either. Not all of them are bad. Many do a lot of good in terms of charitable causes, but you never hear about it on the news. But it's true, many are spoilt and corrupt by the riches of football and get up to no good. That's the nature of life unfortunately, the most privileged jobs always tend to have a lot of bad eggs - whether that be politics, banking, football etc.

We have a professional footballer in the extended family. He is a lovely guy.
I have also known one in the past (son in law of a colleague) who was an utter knob. As with anything, there and good and bad people within the same community.

Anyone enjoying the final weekend of the Premier League? Big news of the day: Liverpool beaten 6-1 by Stoke City . Yes, you heard right - Stoke City . Newcastle avoiding relegration by a whisker. I was hoping they'd get relegated again . Lucky Geordies . Chelsea lifting the PL trophy. Good on Ambramovich for buying another trophy. Enjoy this year. United will conquer England once again next year, we are the permanent owners of the PL trophy after all .

*wipes sweat of brow*
Phew! We survived! Only at Newcastle though could they celebrate staying up as if they've won the Premiership! free-rolleye-smileys-323 smiley-biglaugh
It would have just been far too humiliating for Sunderland to stay up and for us to go down though, lol!
(but part of me, a secret, dark hidden part, thinks that it might have been the best thing for Newcastle to go down as we might have finally got rid of Ashley!)

Hey, at least you still have the "best coach in the Premier League" as John Carver likes to think of himself . Things certainly need to change at Newcastle. You can't keep going the way you are, otherwise you will find yourself in more relegation battles and you might not be so lucky next time. What on earth is Mike Ashley doing? It's like he is intent on destroying your club! I thought United fans had it bad with the Glazers putting the club into debt, but at least they give Louis Van Gaal the freedom to do what he wants. Mike Ashley, on the other hand, is an utter liability to Newcastle and doesn't give his managers a platform to succeed at the club.

Well rid in the end Out of the ones I knew I think only two are still with the same wife, a couple are on number three.

Gladly Charley. To translate it into Manchester-ish - City are equivalent to your beloved Manchester City. Rovers are more Stockport County, but have the distinction of being supported by heathens, charlatans and undesirables. I hear they sometimes eat their own young, and recently discovered the wheel.
