I am slightly annoyed that Sonia is going to sleep with her husband soon, it just seems that rather than committing to Tina she has to keep taking solace in the arms of men. For instance she slept with Fatboy when she was confused about her feelings for Tina and now she sleeps with Martin.
Its refreshing to to have a bisexual character in Eastenders and I was glad that Sonia's sexuality has been explored again after the farce of her relationship with Naomi. Yet I am bored of this bed hopping, especially as it appears Sonia isn't ready to commit to Tina. On screen it appears that Sonia is just a bit confused, that she does have feelings for Tina as a friend but cannot seem to commit any more than that. It would have been nice to have a bisexual character who didn't bed hop 24/7.
Then we have Ben and Abi, are they having a sexual relationship do we know? I really wish we didn't have to go through a second coming where Ben is concerned. He already said he is gay and while Phil is deluded, it seems daft that everyone else ought he just went through a phase. You would think the likes of Sharon would have a quiet word, would be worried about Abi. But yet they all seem happy enough to go along with the charade because it makes Phil happy. It's bewildering tbh. It will be interesting to see how Abi takes the inevitable break up, will she support Ben or will she turn into crazy Abi and will try and get her revenge on him. Paul Coker is turning up soon, it's heavily hinted that he is gay and will no doubt be the catalyst for Ben coming out of the closet. I wouldn't be surprised if this gets dragged out until Kathy returns,,so she can fight in Bens corner for him.
I really wish DTC hadn't revealed he was bringing in a transgender character when they hadn't even planned who that character would be. Hell, the cynical part of me thinks that they hadn't even considered bringing in a transgender character until DTC took part in that event a few weeks back. I hope that they handle it sensitively when they do get round to bringing them in.

Spot on. It is ridiculous and something of an insult that gay characters aren't allowed to be gay without some kind of doubt or exploration of the other side. Absolute tokenism. We have a gay character so we are PC but they might be hetero really. But we still ticked the box.

It's just a given that bisexual characters in soap are never able to commit fully, they have to constantly have affairs. In Sonia's case it just seems that she goes through phases, that she's never fully able to commit to a woman. She gets bored with Martin watching the footy all the time so turns to women for a bit of excitement rather than genuinely having feelings for someone of the same sex.

The accent from almost every storyline is that the "norm" is the part where she and other bisexual characters have feelings for the opposite sex though. As if same sex is just some dalliance that they will eventually grow out of.

I think it's just Sonia. Never bloody happy, always wanting what she hasn't got until she gets it then gets bored!

I like Sonia, she makes me laugh. I just wish they would write her a bit better and keep her away from the likes of Martin and Fatboy.

Whatever the case I am sick of bisexual characters being shown as promiscuous. Like we don't have to deal with that label already? EE does it all the time with those characters. Lets keep the stereotype and the myth playing please. Imagine if someone happily married was bi like Mick or Linda. Not a big deal as they are married but they are bi and faithful it does happen.

That's al they can do with bisexual characters though, make them absolute sluts. Although that seems to be the norm with lot of characters these days.

I just wish they would write her a bit better and keep her away from the likes of Martin and Fatboy. To be fair she was really popular when she was with Jamie. I remember Stephen Fry championing them on some programme.

Some great comments here, its always felt lazy to me when you have an established gay/lesbian/bi character in a show that when another one arrives they seem to automatically end up in bed with each other!

I think the issue with that lies in the amount of different characters each soap has to have, they seem to have to tick far too many boxes these days in that they have to have black characters, Asian characters, disabled characters etc. It doesn't feel natural but yo be realistic they would have to have a cast of hundreds. I mean each soap has about 50 characters, but in real life generally you interact with a much larger group of people. Especially nowdays when its so easy to stay in touch with people through social media. Soaps do not have the ability for characters to have such large social circles.

I'm not sure that any soap has truly given a decent fair non muddled portrayal of a bisexual character sadly. It is frustrating.
A few of my past relationhave been with bisexual men and I really don't get why portraying them realistically and as likeable characters on TV is proving so difficult for soap bosses.

It's probably because they are obsessed with infidelity storylines, so any bisexual character has to be promiscuous. As viewers though, it's rare that affairs interest us these days. Generally because the people having the affairs have zero chemistry and they all have to be related.
