I am guilty of saying how badly Christine had aged. I honestly don’t believe that people should let themselves go so badly as Christine did. Sorry but I do believe this. I am ancient but I can always look reasonable even though I am in my scruffs. i also remember this when it happened and, yes, everyone bad mouthed her saying she was a prostitute/ tart/slag and names like that. She wasn’t, of course. Maybe just loose morals but no more than that. She was used by Ward and Profumo and tossed aside. I am just glad that Profumo was brought down and, of course, Ward committed suicide. I'm not pointing fingers at you Lou, don't think I was having any kind of go. You're reacting to what's being printed, nothing wrong with that. My thinking is that pictures like that shouldn't have been printed in the first place. She was no longer relevant, many people reading wouldn't even know who she was but no, they still couldn't leave her alone. I also believe that by this time Christine just didn't give a monkey's what she looked like any more, look where looking nice got her? Looking like that could have been some psychological self-defence "if I look like this I'll be left alone". She doesn't look like a happy woman in that pic that's for certain but again it could be misleading, she could have been perfectly content yet didn't like the camera in her face.

She also wasn't a well woman in her later years and illness can destroy your looks unfortunately.

I don't think Stephen Ward was a pimp. He had a perfectly good and lucrative career as an osteopath and didn't need the money . I did feel sorry for him though .

I don't think he was a pimp either and those two were not prostitutes, just good time girls, that were given 'gifts'. Would be called rinsers today. I didn't completely understand why the establishment were so against him and so determined to bring him down. He obviously had a true gift for osteopathy and it was all rather sad. Different times different attitudes.

Sadly Stephen Ward was the scapegoat. A documentary will follow the last episode of the excellent drama on Sunday, BBC2 at 10.PM with Tom Mangoid, the last person to see Stephen alive.

Did you see the documentary made by Tom Mangold after it on BBC 2. Keeler, Profumo, Ward and me ?
Oh what a disgraceful miscarriage of justice. I could have cried.

Totally agree although I haven't watched it yet but have recorded it. The files aren't available until 2046!!!! Something stinks. Those who will be around then won't give a toss I'm sure.

I watched it tonight and it just backed up what we all knew but told from someone who was at the heart of it back in 1963. The bit I didn't know was that Ward was already working for MI5 because of his highbrow connections.

Yes, I am watching this. I remember it all happening in the 60's . That dates me . Sad end for Christine Keeler . Some beautiful women age well. I can think of a number . Helen Mirren, Judi Dench, Wendy Craig, me to name 4, LOL. Sadly Christine Keeler didnt age well. I would still definitely rattle that.

I did at first, mainly down to James Norton's charming portrayal, and then I didn't, Lou. Not after I'd thought about it properly. He was clearly far older than portrayed, well, he certainly looked it anyway, and, while he might not have profited financially from befriending and then "introducing" naïve girls aged 18-21 to his well-heeled chums, he certainly acquired & used them to further his own standing in such circles. Which, to me, is tantamount to the same thing. He used them solely for his own gain, whether financial or otherwise. Was he stitched up, though? Yes, of course. Terribly so. The establishment needed a scapegoat and Ward fitted the description perfectly. He was easily the most dispensable, and I suspect there were many involved who were rather happy & relieved that he killed himself, thus extinguishing any lingering fear of taking anybody down with him. In my opinion, he was a chap of poor moral fibre but not a criminal. One other thing, the casting in this was excellent. They all looked incredibly like who they were supposed to be.

I am ancient but I can always look reasonable even though I am in my scruffs. You are like my old mam, Lou. Cut from the same cloth, you two. She takes great pride in her appearance, still spends a fortune on clothes and her hair, and is always impeccably turned out. She's 72 but refuses to become "an old lady," although she doesn't dress young, just fashionably for her age. She thinks I dress like a tramp, btw.

That documentary was hard hitting but very watchable. It was a disgrace what happened.
