Did anyone else watch this much publicised supernatural drama on Sky Living last night...? I did and thought it was really good...
Based on true life events in 1977 in Enfield it centres on a young girl called Janet and her "Poltergeists"...
www.sky.com/tv/show/the-enfield-haunting
In the 1980s my older brother collected the magazine The Unexplained which came out monthly and eventually he collected them all and put them into 12 binders which he got free with the magazine... they eventually made their way into my hands (I still have them today) and I was fascinated by this story which was covered in the mags...
I think the programme really did the story justice as it has never really been explained to this day... The young girl is adamant that she is being tormented by a poltergeist, which we see happening but every time it happens no one else sees it, they only see the aftermath which makes them think she is "staging" it all...
I also liked the spot on set design of the 1970's...

I've recorded it mate, really looking forward to seeing it too. Gonna wait till I've got all three though and watch them all together.
I'm a bit of a supernatural ghoul myself, have always found it utterly fascinating. Always watch the paranormal night on 'Really' every Thursday, and after footy, it's probably the subject I read most about on the net. Plenty of folk pour scorn the idea and tell you there's no such thing, but I have always believed in ghosts. I have never to my knowledge seen one, but I'm absolutely a believer for sure.
My old man was one of thirteen children in his family, and most of them claimed to have had spooky "experiences" growing up in Northern Ireland, and I never tired of hearing them recount those tales when I was a nipper. Whether they were actually true or not is another matter altogether, they could certainly spin a terrific yarn, but it's certainly where my interest in the paranormal stems from.
I'll watch pretty much anything on the subject, apart from those twats on 'Most Haunted' who I'd love to see get an almighty kicking. Every last one of them. Their playground antics have only helped to cast even further doubt on everybody who has a real experience to share.

I'm sure you'll enjoy it UQ...
I too am a believer have been since a I was old enough to contemplate that there must be more to this life than just death... I though have had experiences and although too many to mention on here some were quite frightening and some were quite calming...
I did go on one of these paranormal nights in Ordsall Hall (most haunted done this one also) and although our group had very little activity the other groups had balls flying about the rooms and such like... I must point out that in our group was my older brother who, straight from the start voiced his opinion that he thought it was all hogwash... apparently that is not the way to entice them to show... I did go on a Ouija board while there and there was only me and another girl on it (not a guide) and the glass was moving about right up until the moment my brother walked in the room and it just stopped and wouldn't move again... that was spooky...

My bezzie mate is in the "non believing" camp too, he thinks everything has a rational scientific explanation.
I've bombarded him over the years with footage, true life stories and books, some of which he refuses to believe, others he has admitted have interested him to point of thinking there simply must be something in it.
He still just about veers on the side of thinking ghosts probably don't exist, but happily admits he's far more open minded about it now than he once was.
I don't believe for a moment that we are alone in the universe either. But that's a whole other can of worms.

I watched it and loved it - so much so that I downloaded the remaining eps to binge watch later. I remember reading Guy Lyon Playfair's book This House Is Haunted in the late 80s/early 90s (when I was too young basically, but kids love a good scare!) and it's stayed with me ever since.
For those who enjoyed this, there's a nice little film called When The Lights Went Out about a similar case from the 70s in the North West. It's not a classic, but it's worth a watch.
My one complaint was that there was loads on last night and all at the same time; this, Home Fires and The C Word. My skyplanner was working overtime!

I downloaded the rest of the eps and watched them both Monday night. It's a really good dramatisation. I believe Hollywood are also dramatising it for the film The Conjuring 2. Bet that'll be shite!

I really enjoyed this programme, it was right up my street. Grew up with a mother (and grandmother) who totally believe(d) in ghosts, spirits and the after life so I'm very comfortable with this subject and have to say, if what was shown on this programme really happened it must have been bloody terrifying! This wasn't a case of bumps in the night (or stones being chucked around my house like what happens when I'm in by myself!) but a full-on evil presence Acting was spot on too, you can't go wrong with Timothy Spall and I've always quite fancied Matthew Macfadyen lol! But the kids were excellent too. If anyone's got Sky and it's connected to your router so you can download there's an excellent 'behind the scenes' programme that's worth a look.

I've watched all three now and was suitably impressed... I'll give the behind the scenes one a whirl too thanks Lotty...
