I think Bet was the last of the strong women who were the maternal type figure of the street. Ena then Elsie, then Hilda, then Bet, then - no one. After Bet left the females seemed to all play a part but there was no stand alone strong matriarch figure after Bet.
You could never compare Audrey or Mavis to legends like Bet and Elsie.

Rita has flashes now and then telling home truths, but she doesn't sustain it for more than a scene or two. I fancied Fiz could be a distant relation to Ena once, back when she first appeared she was brassier.

I see Carla in many ways a modern Elsie and Leanne also has that side to her also.
