Diane drives into the sunset in a taxi... I started watching Emmerdale 16 years ago when I moved to NZ, don't think I've missed a single episode but yeah nah, no big loss in my opinion.

Sheila Mercier was around the same age when she stopped making regular contracted appearances on the show, however it would’ve been nice for the producers to say “the door is always open”. I do get the feeling that they don’t care if Diane comes back or not and I think this is telling of the future direction of the show.

The current producers need to go now, they need just 1 person at the helm. Shame how they care little about the Sugdens yet as said, the Dingles just keep multiplying. They were only meant to be in a few episodes in 1994 to cause some bother for the McAllisters and Glovers.

The last good producer was Gavin Blyth. We had The Hat, Kate Oates then Iain MacBollox.
Producers tend to stay on for much longer now than they used to. Although if Lucy Addario from H&A stays on a few more years, she will overtake Podders time as Corrie producer from 1976 to 1988. Addario has been at the H&A helm since Jan 20212 so 10 years nearly. Although Jason Herbison has been at the Neighbours helm for 8 years now.

Very sad to see Elizabeth leave, i don't blame her, 22 years is a good run. The soap will most certainly miss Diane. I loved her stint in the Woolie and it was never quite the same when she left to run the B&B. Her scenes with Val were always a joy to watch. I loved her in the Liver Birds. Emmerdale have the same problem EE have, very few older characters. This is what keeps CS ticking along.

That is also the same with Neighbours, very few older characters. Only Sheila really. Jane and Paul are middle aged.

Still watching the Classics where she has not long arrived as Bernice who is Landlady of the Woolie's mum, she had a good run, over 20 years
