There are mixed opinions as to what era constitutes the glory days of Coronation Street? Some say 1960-1987 and the glory days ended when Hilda left, however I strongly disagree as Jack and Vera carried on the Stan and Hilda mantle, whereas I am more inclined to agree that the glory days was more like 1976-1984.
Some say 1960-1997 were the glory days until Brian Park took over. See there is no precise time frame. What would you say were the glory days of Corrie?

I don't think there is any difference to be honest. Everyone says it was better years ago but in 20 years time, they will be looking back saying how great it was in 2015. It is, was and will be the same old, same old.

In all honesty while the show was slower and had more authentic dialogue in the 1970s and 1980s there was still some wobbly sets, wooden acting and silly storylines. All the residents lived and worked in the street and only ever worked in the factory or pub or shop, and maybe Eddie went out and about on his window cleaning round. And even then they were always gossiping and half asleep.
It was obvious due to the ages of the older cast such as Ena and Albert that their days would not last forever. Times change.

Although I was not born until 1967, I have very fond memories of the Bill Podmore era and from 1976/1984. However watching early episodes on DVD I think the golden era has to be be from 1960/1964. Real kitchen sink drama, with warmth and heart.

The Podmore era of 1976-1988 was certainly full of drama. Plenty of highs and plenty of lows. Yes the show may have returned to its Northern, slightly comedic roots but it was also the era in which many of the original characters left with 1982-1984 being significantly brutal. It was also the era in which Peter Adamson and Peter Dudley caught the news headlines for all the wrong reason and dented the image of the show.
I think the issue is that often the show is allowed to 'rest on its laurels' and then it needs rescuing!

And for me they will never be able to match the golden days of Ena, Minnie and Martha in the snug, Annie and Jack in the Rovers and Elsie.

Corrie during the Bill Podmore years had much more of a community feel to it than it does now. The characters then were well written, and even mundane plots were a joy to watch because they were so well written. Less is more in my opinion.

It has always been the same. Badly written, badly acted and plot driven. There are no glory years. It is just an endless production line of throwaway, cheap entertainment.

I have been a strong critic of The Hat but I can see the community feel coming back into Corrie. I love the mundane in the street, like Bin gate, talking about football, having a chippy tea. I want more of this.

Should this thread be renamed 'The glory days of Coronation Street are long gone!'

I used to think Collinson was bad with his list of Agendas & Ishoos with which to batter the captive audience, but now I think Blackburn is even worse. He has annihilated Corrie.

There is no precise time frame for the glory days, it seems to be in the eye of the beholder.
But not one scene can be seen as glory when Stuzza Blackburn is in charge.

The Glory at present appears to be the mincing pansypants Seaniekins standing there with his arms folded, spitting venom through deeply pursed lips. Yep that's about it really
