I’ve never watched this in all the years it’s been on even though I love Robson Green. I started to watch this new series as there was nothing else on. I’m really enjoying it and picked up the characters and situation easily. I did Google Leonard and his character and discovered he’d been in prison for being gay. Unbelievable . 1958.

Yes Lou I like Granchester, one of my Mum's favourites, a good slot on a Friday. A great cast, I liked James Norton as Sidney, when he left they brought in Tom Brittney to replace Norton as Will Davenport and works equally as well. Former EastEnders Producer Diederick Santer is Executive Producer. This is Al Weaver who plays Leonard in real life:-

I never did either and the whole series from Series 1 is now on ITVPlayer and is a joy. I prefer the original vicar, Stanley, although who would have thought men of the cloth were such shaggers in the early 1950s.

Can someone give me some of the back story please? I am enjoying this but never saw any of the other series .
Why did the James Norton vicar leave. I read somewhere that he was going to get married but decided to stay in the church. Why did he leave and how come we have a new vicar who also solves crimes.Strange that.
“ Raquel” is good. Did anyone recognize the bossy receptionist with Liz in Corrie? Also one of the midwives in Call The Midwife but now with blonde hair.
I don’t watch Eastenders but isn’t Geordie’s estranged wife one of the Slater sisters, the youngest ?Correct me if I’m wrong.

Louiza Patikas was in Corrie with Liz and is also Helen Archer in "The Archers." I think James Norton left in early episodes in series 4 going to America. “ Raquel” Sylvia is my favourite character, I roar with laughter when she swears. I hope she doesn't get killed off.

I don't want to give too much away but the first three series were based on Sidney's deep love for Amanda and the pain he felt when she was more or less pushed into marrying someone else. Then for some reason James Norton decided to leave and they wrote a totally ridiculous exit for him. 'Raquel' is excellent as Mrs C, marrying Trevor, Alan Turner's evil son from Emmerdale.

Thanks, Butterball. I have so many things to watch that I don’t think I can face 3 whole series. I did read about Sidney’s love for someone but that he chose the church after she left. I assumed he moved to another church .
What an excruciating dinner organised by Will for Geordie and his wife.

One thing that slightly irritates me is when modern phrases are used in period dramas. This is a period drama to my mind so when Geordie talked about “ my happy place “ i cringed. This is a modern saying. Also the use of the word “ entitled” in the sense that someone feels they are owed something. No- one felt “ entitled” in the fifties. Everyone knew their place .
IMO .
