Excellent new series. The actor from Endeavour in the leading role as the judge is superb. Very understated and there’s some lovely bits of dry humour from him too just when you least expect it.
2 stand alone episodes so far and I am loving it.

If you have access to Britbox there’s a 3rd episode which I imagine will be screened next Sunday.
I’ve found the series so far to be excellent, had to look up what the Judge’s role is (as there isn’t really a UK equivalent) but once I understood that, it all made a lot more sense. The scenery and the weather and that Citroen are all utterly wonderful.

The Judge’s role was explained in detail in the first episode just in conversation early on so that immediately stopped any speculation

Must have missed that bit 😂
There’s been some chatter online complaining that it’s all posh English ex-pats not speaking French but that doesn’t bother me at all, because actually I think the characters are part English, part French and have seemingly lived in France all their lives.

That’s a ridiculous criticism imo. They are not expats, they are French . Perhaps they would prefer it if it was in French with English subtitles and then they would be complaining about that. Have a little imagination, people and just accept it. There’s no ther way round it. At least they kiss each other French style on both cheeks.

One more episode next Sunday but there is talk of a series 2. Goody. It's well crafted and well acted . Too good for there not to be a series 2.

I watched the first episode and won't be watching any more thank you.
As a 20 something I spent at least one night a week watching foreign films with subtitles in the old Edinburgh Filmhouse. I still watch foreign drama series on Channel 4 or record foreign films with subtitles and enjoy them most of the time.
Decent actors and a good production but just not believable for me.

And Wallander and Van der Valk spoke English even though they were Swedish and Dutch.

Am really enjoying this. Another good episode tonight . Had to really concentrate to get my head round the French names and who was who but it didn’t spoil it for me.

A new series of Van Der Valk starts on Sunday in place of Murder in Provence. I wonder if he will speak English? 🤣🤣🤣
