Seems the show may be returning.

Sad when a Classic probably the best made sitcom ever returns. It has disaster written all over it. Plus Cleese is quite an unpleasant human being by all accounts. I hope the Beeb steer well clear.

Does he really need the money? Or is this just a way of getting work for his daughter, who sadly isn’t as talented.
Seems a bit cruel to reboot it when Pru sadly isn’t well enough to take part.

I am one of the biggest FT fans having watched the 13 (I think) episodes over and over and they still make me laugh, a total classic, but bringing in back 40 years later? NO NO NO. Cleese is now a white haired old man who will just seem senile and not funny, no Sybil, Manuel, The Major or Polly? His daughter Camilla (who?) instead? I fear it will just be an embarrassment.

Yes Cleese is an old man now at 83. His voice is getting croakier all the time and he is starting to look a bit frail. The longer you live the more decrepit you get once you get to that age.

At first I thought it was a great idea... But as the news sank in I started to think more along these lines... It probably is just a way of getting his daughter in the limelight before he croaks it... The fact that it is being made by Castle Rock Entertainment speaks volumes as to the type of audience it is likely to appeal to... It will be full of American (non) humoUr and absolutely no irony whatsoever... In short it will be dull as ditchwater and as funny as toothache... Remember when they brought back Auf Pet...? The third series wasn't bad in Arizona... But the Cuban one was pants...

Can only concur with the above. Why tarnish the legacy? But as much as it might pain Cleese's ego it was actually an ensemble piece with everyone playing their parts so to me it's unimaginable without Sybil, Polly, the Major, Manuel etc. Their modern day equivalents just won't be the same. You could never do most of the equivalent jokes nowadays as folks on twitter would be needing smelling salts and shouting louder than everyone else to cancel it (empty vessels and all that ...). Basil would be sexist. Basil would be a misogynist. Basil would be racist. Basil would be rude. Basil would be a thug and on and on it would go It was of it's time and is legendary, don't spoil it! Pure bloody greed.

Cleese must love eating lots of bread, and he is bringing back Fawlty because he is kneading the dough.

I will keep an open mind but I am a bit sceptical about a show which acts as a continuation to a 44 year old sitcom, which is still held in high regard to this day. Basil will obviously be the only original character remaining, I guess his new hotel will be full of characters ripping off the originals. This is like Hollywood and their need to make sequels to decades old films to cash in on the nostalgia.

Cleese is also very anti woke and the new Fawlty will have to be woke to pander to the Wokes and snowflakes.
