If Corrie had decided to bring in more absurd plots in the late 1960s instead of around 2010 what do you think would happen?
Albert Tatlock would be revealed to be Ken's biological father once Frank died in the early 1970s. Albert had a ONS with Ida in early 1939.
When Stan and Albert were locked in the Rovers in 1976, they would end up kissing and be revealed to be secretly bisexual.
Billy Walker would kidnap Deirdre Hunt in 1975 on her wedding day to Ray and when Ray tried to rescue her, Billy would hold Ray and Deirdre hostage.
Despite only owning the tenancy, Annie would bequeath the Rovers to Betty Turpin in 1984, over her own flesh and blood son Billy or daughter Joan.
In 1983, Ken would hold Mike hostage for sleeping with Deirdre.
Maud Grimes would turn out to be a secret lovechild of Ena Sharples in 1993. Ena had had an affair and her husband refused to bring the baby up as his.
At Hilda's leaving do in late 1987, it would be revealed that she once slept with Mike Baldwin shortly before Stan died.

Instead of being arrested for selling stolen basins, Jed Stone would instead try and kill Minnie Caldwell which would lead to him holding the pub hostage. Jed would then burn down the pub, and Minnie would weep at the death of her "Sonny Jim".
Ray Langton would hold Deirdre and Tracy hostage in the house in 1978 when she refuses to go to Holland with him. Len Fairclough breaks down the door and thumps Ray and knocks him out, and he is arrested and taken away for good.
Ernest Bishop's killer Tommo would end up being a regular character on the street. He would end up killing several other characters, and stitch Mike Baldwin up for the deaths. He would then confess to Emily and when she refuses to forgive him he attempts to murder her, only to end up shooting himself in the head when he is cornered by the authorities.
Ivy Tilsley would turn out to be an actual bigamist, to explain why her husband Bert Tilsley no way resembles Jack Tilsley from the early 1970s.

Jerry Booth will have killed Sonia Peters in 1967 and then after the train derailed, he would place her body there to make it look like she died in the train crash. Jerry would then try to throw himself off a towerblock saying "I am blessed" but he would survive with just cuts and bruises.
Rita would have held her late husband Len Fairclough's lover hostage in her house after tracking her down.
In 1970, Stan Ogden would have wrestled the gun off crazed American GI Joe Donelli then shot him dead in cold blood. But he would manage to avoid prison.
In January 1975, Len would be arrested for the false murder of Lynn Johnson and spend months in prison.
In December 1965, when David Barlow wed Irma Ogden, it would be revealed that David slept with Irma's mother Hilda a few weeks earlier. Irma would chase Hilda to the top of the church, and Hilda would be dangled to her death by Irma. Hilda would fall but land in bushes and survive. It would all be forgiven after Stan gave David a bit of a thrashing, then Irma and David would marry the next week.

Curly Watts would be the original "binman" in the 1980s (prior to Stephen Reid) and use his rubbish collecting business to move his victims around.
When Terry Duckworth became a bad guy who would just end up as a pure Nick Cotton copycat and try and murder Jack and Vera during his visits in the 1990s and 2000s. It would likely be revealed that Terry orchestrated Vera's death in January 2008.
I know I am getting really up to date with these made up storylines, but to me the 2000s up until 2010 marked the last glimmer of "old" Corrie, despite it's major revamp in 1997.

At Derek and Mavis' wedding in 1988, it would be revealed that Mavis slept with a man called Norris Cole, who would appear 6 years later. Derek would try to kill Norris in 1994.

Or Norris is retconned to be the same person as Carlos, the Spaniard she was engaged to in 1975.

Or Norris is retconned to be the same person as Carlos, the Spaniard she was engaged to in 1975. Either it was Norris parading as a Spaniard called Carlos in 1974, or Norris was really Carlos who had lost his Spanish accent by 1994.

If Stan Ogden was introduced now he would certainly be a villain on the show. No doubt would be involved in violent scenes where he is violently beating Hilda behind the scenes. After the story goes on for a year Hilda will expose Stan's abuse in front of a packed pub, and Annie and Jack will send him packing and followed by cheers from the other residents. But this isn't the end of Stan as he will return to the street and attempt to kill Hilda by holding her hostage in the house and begins to burn it down. David Barlow would then bravely enter the house and help Hilda escape, leaving Stan behind to perish.
The aftermath leaves Hilda shaken. She is consoled by Jack Walker at the pub and they grow close. While Annie is away visiting her and Jack's daughter Joan in Derby, Hilda and Jack hang out together at the pub and share a drink. They realise they are attracted to each other and kiss, and end up going upstairs to the Walkers bedroom to have sex. Jack feels terrible and Hilda feels the same and that they betrayed Annie. Annie is oblivious to the fact Hilda and Jack are awkward around each other. Annie contributes more to the awkwardness by forming a close friendship with Hilda and inviting her for meals with her and Jack. When Jack gets Hilda alone he says that they can't keep doing this, but Hilda snaps back saying she isn't happy with this arrangement either. Jack attempts to bribe Hilda to leave Weatherfield for good and start a new life elsewhere, but Hilda refuses. Jack confronts her at the newly rebuilt No.13 Coronation Street, where Jack gets angry at Hilda's stubbornness. But they end up kissing and have sex in the living room. They are almost caught when Irma and David let themselves in, and a half-dressed Jack is forced to hide out the back until Hilda gets rid of them. Jack admits nearly being caught makes him excited, and Hilda and Jack agree to continue seeing each other but have to be careful next time.

I don’t think it would have been allowed. The IBA held a lot of sway back then and would have bullied Granada into relenting.

I guess a better way to look at it is if the Corrie began now, with the old characters rebooted for modern day.
