Emmerdale, EastEnders and Home And Away are filmed quite a way from where they are set, hence why in H&A Summer Bay looks more urban now than an isolated seaside Australian town.
The 3 shows are set in East London, Yorkshire Dales and an Australian seaside country town. But Palm Beach in Sydney is much more urban now, and it shows on Home And Away.
EastEnders is filmed in a town just north of London, Borehamwood, and the square, viaduct, Turpin road and George Street look very East End plus the nearby towerblock gave an inner city feel. Over the years the show has filmed in and around Borehamwood and as it is several miles from the real East End, it makes the East End borough of Walford outside the square look more green and suburban than the more densely built East End.
Once Emmerdale left Arncliffe in late 1975, the show lost some of it authentic Dales setting, as Esholt is just outside Bradford and is not a Dales village. The producers moved to Esholt for convenience as Arncliffe was too far from the Leeds studios.
I think even the fictional Neighbours setting of Erinsborough has been said to be a suburb of Melbourne then a independent town in Victoria, Australia.
Weatherfield is set in Salford, always has been, and the location filming has always been spot on.
