A two parter episode in a few days time.....can`t wait. Anybody see this? What a cliffhanger . Wonderful ! Poor Raf and Ollie but Jac will survive . I think Ollie will too but a vegetable ?? Poor Essie too. She was so happy. But can anyone tell me why Fredrik flipped ? What is the backstory with he and Hanssen ?

I was on the edge of my seat for most of the episode. Poor Raf. kitkat would be the best person to ask about Fredrick Lou. I will try and give some detail into Fredrick. From what I gather, Fredrick and his Father never got along. When he turned up at Holby as a junior doctor, he had hoped to win the junior doctor of the year award, but Dom won it instead. Frederick even sacrificed his home life just so he could get his fathers approval to recommend a drugs study that Frederik seems obsessed over. His Father wouldn`t go along with his schemes. Last year a drugs trial study that Frederik was involved with in Sweden caused a patient to die, and the trial was halted. Frederick moved his wife and son to Holby hoping his Father would approve the drugs study. - and using his son as a bargaining chip in the process. Mr Hannsen could see right through his sons plotting, but still wouldn`t grant Frederik the drug trial study. I suppose after his wife and son went back to Sweden, he lost out as Jnr doctor, and Mr Hanssen turning him down again - Frederik must`ve finally flipped.

Thank you, Wendy. Yes I remember bits of that now. I have a memory of Fredrik being a patient but that may have been something else. I only dip in and out of Holby so miss a lot.

Just watched those episodes now, was absolutely gripped in the second one. So sad, I think I was in tears or had watery eyes for the last half hour!
Poor Hanssen, how will he get over this? Got to say that the actor who plays him is superb but kudos also to the one who played Fredrik*, he is excellent at controlled derangement!
Poor Jac too. interesting seeing these two characters who are usually so in control, too much in control really, finally crack.
And what about Ollie? Frontal lobe, even if he survives will he ever be able to practice medicine again never mind surgery?
And finally poor Raf, I'm glad he didn't seem frightened or terrified of dying even though he knew it was round the corner. Does beg the question though, why didn't he phone 999 and tell them he was in the lift? Poor Essie, a character I'm usually not too keen on but you'd have to have a heart of stone not to feel for a newly wed who's now found herself a widow. And let's not forget Fletch has lost his best mate.
All just very, very sad. But an excellent two hours worth of TV.
*EDIT: just found out he's Billy Postlethwaite, Pete Postelthwaite's son, no wonder he's good!

It waa very moving although I, and I think.most people, had guessed most of it. Jac is due to appear.in Casualty so wouldn't die, Raf wasn't mentioned I. Upcoming spoilers and McFadden has talked about doing the Strictly tour so likely to die. The shooter could only really be Jeremy.or Fredrik despite the blurb about face from the past. Oliver being shot as well was a shock and hard to see how he comes back from frontal.lobe damage but they do have a new wonder nuerosurgeon in Gaskell so.....
Raf knew his injury meant certain death even if attended to, he said so.in the message. Therefore it was pointless trying to get help so he used the limited time he had to do something meani.gful, call the woman he loved. He also is probably intelligent enough to.k.kw that the Hospital would go into lockdown and any break in that to get him.out of the lift would help the shooter get around endangering more lives. As the good man.he was, a man who spent his life saving lives, he was never going to put multiple people at risk for the (very slim) chance of saving his life. It's the same reason Hansenn wouldn't put the lifts back on to get Jac to a Theatre. In a situation like that, to quote Star Trek, the needs of the many must outweigh the needs of the few, or one.

Ah right, through my sobs I must have missed that bit! Makes perfect sense now as to why he'd choose what to do in his final few minutes wisely. Glad he said he wasn't frightened, I know he's only fictional but still you get attached to your fictional characters and don't want them to be scared when they're dying. Lovely man he was, I'll miss him and his nice accent. Thanks KK

Yes, the more you think about Raf's death, the more upsetting it is. To be a Doctor, conscious, knowing it is hopeless, that you're dying and to be alone and trapped. I'm also glad he wasn't frightened and hope he wasn't ying about that to protect Essie. One flippant comment though, he was speaking remarkably well for somebody who was bleeding from the jugular in their neck! McFadden also died in the Casualty repeats last week, on the same day I think although I missed it.
Raf was always just kind of there for me. I liked him, interesting character played by a personable actor and he was great in a supporting role as friend to Fletch and especially Serena during Adriennes illness and death. But none of his primary storylines ever really grabbed me and some I actively disliked such as the infertility plot with his first wife though that was more me finding her impossible to relate to or empathise with.
All the wounds inflicted by Fredrik seemed particularly vicious. Not that it's nice to be shot anywhere but the eck, front of head and back of torso seem especially brutal somehow.

OK as usual this time of year I've had a drink or 7 (relatives xmas get together inc my oldest brother who's managed to get his bum back up to these parts this year, lovely to see him) and just watched Holby and they've killed me off altogether by having Arthur come back. I'm a soggy rag now! I loved Arthur, they could rip up the rule book and bring him back and you wouldn't hear a thing about me about retconning lol!
Sorry to see Morven go, she took a while to grow on me but I ended up liking her.
Essie gets on my wick a lot of the time but I thought she was lovely with Hanssen, she could easily have been off with him considering his son murdered her husband but she recognises that he's lost someone too. She's gone up in my estimation for that. I hope we see the memorial service.
I'm a bit concerned about this exodus of staff. None of them give any notice, just decide to leave that day and they're off! (apart from Raf who was murdered, not his fault). I was particularly sad to see the back of the tall, dark Italian, just lurved his accent.

Just caught up with Holby, I thought the 2nd special was very good, however the 1st episode a little odd. Both Fredrik and Hanssen were excellent and compelling to watch. I agree Lotty how will Hanssen get over this? I don't think he will. It would be nice if Serena comes back. I do miss her. I think Henrik could do with her support right now. I enjoyed the final episode before Christmas with Arthur making an appearance.

Poor Mr Hanssen, looks like he`s having a breakdown. My heart truly goes out to him in his suffering. Essie is getting right on my wick more than my Rustic Woods scented candles. Wish she would 'Ess off'. "Oh yes I`m such a good person to invite the widow of a man who killed my husband to his memorial service. I invited you. Go.Stay.Go.Stay" Make your cowing mind up for gawds sake. I love 'Piglet`s' Gran...what a great character. Can you imagine the wonderful scenes together of Dom`s Mother (is her name Carol?), and Lofty`s Gran? They would be brilliant. Pure gold. Come on writers - get Lofty and Dom together so we can watch these scenes.

I love Sasha, always have. But I`m mad at him now for grassing up those thugs at the prison which ended up with poor Ric getting assaulted. I know he meant well, but surely he would know there would be repercussions of trying to keep Ric safe.
