I am rewatching 1988 H&A episodes on dailymotion and it really showed Neighbours how Australia works. More teens and location scenes and a more fun soap. 1988 Neighbours was quite spartan in comparison. It did have teens but they were quite old fashioned apart from a bit of swimwear and the odd time with them on headphones, in 1988 H&A the kids were always bantering in the classroom, annoying Flathead and being mischievous.

I miss austvlassics2 from Daily Motion and YouTube CAEF Those meanies at YT cancelled his account. I`m gutted as I was only halfway through watching the Sullivans, and was up to ep 1400 on Neighbours. On the bright side, I did manage to watch all of Sons and Daughters before his account was terminated.

I got up to Episode 134 for H&A.
Someone obviously liked to grass him up.

There is one thing that lets H&A down which Neighbours does better. Gay Characters. There is not a gay in the village (bay) or in the closet, the wardrobe is empty. We all know that in NSW and Sydney there are no Gay's. smiley-biglaugh s0238 smileys-cheers-249214

Good point HoleyD Something tells me that the bosses are homophobic, and always have been. They are so behind the times it`s pathetic. I recall reading years ago that Tom Fletcher was killed off because the actor who played him Roger Oakley came out as gay. The bosses denied it, but I`ve always believed it. And Vanessa Dowling who played Pippa was so outraged by it that she quit soon after. I like Pippa V2, but it took me ages to get used to her. I have always prefered the original Pippa though. Tom and Pippa were a perfect couple, and they ruined the dynamic of Home & Away by splitting them up.

Home And Away has always been a right wing soap. Don Fisher said immigrants should learn English if they want to live in Australia. In 2015, if he said that he would get accused of being a racist bigot. Don and Alf are both Conservatives. The show has always seemed to have right wing scriptwriters. Then again Neighbours never had any gays until about 2000ish.
1988 H&A was very teen orientated and modern but it had no gays or foreigners. I suppose we are looking at 1988 through a 2015 lens.

I recall a few years ago that the actor who played Elijah in H&A was fired because of his race. He was very bitter about it. I loved Elijah and loved him in Water Rats too.

I can`t say I`m surprised in the least. The show has definitely lost its way. There just doesn't seem to be the warmth or community spirit feel about it anymore.
