Interesting article re Home and Away, although it is from a New Zealand Newspaper:

I would not take too much notice. H&A is the Aussie top dog. I think that is what the show need to get better, a get worse situation.
I am glad the Braxtons have gone, good riddance. It is a beach side family and teen drama not a crime drama.
H&A has always been a teen soap but never a crime soap.

Well the show is dirt cheap to make for the Seven Network as Channel 5 in the UK bank roll's the show, so from a financial point of view that is good for the Aussie network. It no longer wins its time slot in Oz, it is beaten every night by a current affairs show on the Nine Network.

Neighbours and H&A will be off air before Corrie and EastEnders.
But I think the day Neighbours and H&A go off air will be a few years away. H&A is surging towards 30.

It always ticks me off that H&A and Neighours have a month off at Christmas. The Brit soaps don`t do that. And it`s especially annoying when H&A clashes with a reality show, so we have to wait til after February to watch it. That could be part of the reason why H&A are losing viewers.

I would be surprise if 7 did move Home and Away, although Thursday it did hit only 6.5k and Ten moved Neighbours to 11 when it was getting this rating.
Neighbours can survive on its international sales alone paying for the show, could Home and Away?

I cannot see H&A being axed. It is too iconic and is the biggest soap in Australia. I cannot see it being moved either.
I hear Channel 5 fund much of the Home And Away costs.

I don't think for one second it will be axed, not for a long time. I hope not. However soaps do not have the pulling power in Oz any longer, like they still do here. H & A never wins its time slot and sometimes is in 3rd place at 7:pm. Yes Channel 5 have a current deal to pay for the costs of H & A while it airs. Whether Viacom the new owners of 5 will think this is money well spent and want to continue, remains to be seen. Currently H & A in the UK is the 7th most watched soap. It may be the least watched, but it has the best views and is the most scenic and is probably the place most viewers would like to live and to I still enjoy watching the show. Infact believe it or not, given the choice between watching H & A and Corrie at present I would choose H & A.

I watch H&A at Aus pace, and I`m struggling to watch it. The show is a shadow of its former self, and if it doesn`t improve soon I don`t think I`ll bother watching it. To be honest, I`m preferring to watch the classic H&A eps these days. I just watched the episode yesterday where Bobby died. It was so sad.

1988-2005 was a good period, it started to waver a bit in 2006 but started to go downhill fast in 2010. H&A needs to improve quickly.

Been getting back into Neighbours and it is really an easy enjoyable watch, it's what Corrie used to be. I always think of Neighbours as a middle class Corrie, without the ugly people and Manchester weather. Corrie could learn a lot from Neighbours.
