One of my fave ever characters.
I remember in 1988 he changed his hairstyle a bit, his hair appeared greyer than it did at the start of the year, and he had it cut. Dont know if he dyed it or if hair can go grey that quick.
I like his Cockney phrases such as splosh for tea and dollop, as in a tart.
He once called gay Colin a Mary Ant or Mary Ann, dont know what that one means.

In all honesty he may have been colouring it, in early episodes it certainly looked very brown. The new style where he ditched the parting and went for a 'brushback' or blow dryed arrangement, I reckon it took years off him and was very fashionable at the time. Was it covered in a storyline?
A 'Mary-Ann' is very old Cockney Slang and literally comes from the same direction as 'Nancy' i.e the use of a girls name to signify the person isn't straight.
A much missed character, imagine the antics he and Patrick would get up to! With Pat widowed after Roy's death, putting her and Pete together for Round 2 would have been amazing.

Thanks for the Cockney slang explanation.
I am not sure if it was ever covered but in 1990 his hair did look half grey, half dark brown so he may have put a dye on it, it did seem quite natural looking. From 1985-1988 he had his hair brushed to the side with a side parting and it was dark brown. He looked the same in 1980 in Coronation Street and Woodentop in 1983.
I can remember when Pete was in the show when I was young. No wonder the show went downhill when Den left and had to be saved but the Mitchells could never really replace Dirty Den. The Mitchell bruvs were sops in their first year in 1990 and then became the playground bullies from 1991 onwards.

Well you know, we never saw him die on screen... What'd be the chances eh? You have no living parents for over a decade then two come back from the dead at once

I never really rated Peter Dean as an actor. When he first appeared in 85 he was dire. He did improve as time went on.

I never rated him either and he was a piss-poor actor. He is 76 now and I can't see DTC contemplating having him back as he fell out big-time with the producers at the time and they decided to terminate his contract. He then did an expose of the show and some of his fellow-actors to the press. I think one reincarnation is more than enough for us to swallow.

Pete Beale coming back would be the final nail in the coffin. it is best to leave Pete as deceased.

From what I recall from years ago.... Peter Dean auditioned for the role of Den Watts. The role went to Lesley Grantham, and by all accounts was very bitter about it. I don`t think they got along in real life, and were only friends in EE. I was never much of a fan of his with him .....especially calling everyone 'tweacle'. I thought it sounded so false. I really went right off him when Pat first came into it. Pat was attacked, and Pete Beale gloated over it. I thought that was disgusting, and disliked him ever since. I can hold a grudge for years with some characters, me.

Pete Beale was so laughable when angry but he was scary when he savagely beat Nick Cotton up. Pete Beale and Phil Mitchell are the only 2 characters who have beaten the shit out of someone, Nick Cotton and Steve Owen. Phil beat Steve to a pulp in 2002 when he was at his best. Now Phil has got older and not as healthy.

His hair was still dark but he started having it blow dried in late September 1988 instead of the side parting. His hair was greyer in 1989/1990. He may had coloured his hair a bit or it did go grey quickly.
