Beautiful and moving scene at the end tonight, the Juliet storyline in Hollyoaks is tragic and so well done and every bit as moving as those of Lola in EastEnders.

Give HO their dues they are the only soap to make a real effort with their opening and closing credits unlike the other soaps. t.co/MI75IkG0mY

Must cost a bomb to change the titles everytime the cast changes though!

Home And Away used to do this a lot as well, when a character left they were swiftly removed from the opening titles. On the ball, much more than its Melbourne rival.

Corrie is going the same way as Emmerdale and H&A, deviating from its origins.

Anyone know why Hollyoaks is seemingly protected from being axed?
Viewing figures are on the slide year on year. Never seems to get more than about 750k viewers and it’s E4 more than C4 it’s being watched on.
Other soaps were axed or messed about with well before this point?
Struggling to work out what its demographic is anymore, supposed to be about teenagers? So how come most of the cast is 35+ Tony is going to be 50 anyday now!
I wonder if it’s getting a bit messy and that’s why the figures are so poor.
Needs new leadership?

I wonder if it’s getting a bit messy and that’s why the figures are so poor. Needs new leadership? Home And Away is another soap that is protected from the axe. Ever since Lucy Addario took over the helm in 2012 she had turned H&A into a crime show and totally ditched the fostering aspect. I loved H&A 1988-c2010/2011. To think H&A has now surpassed the timespan inbetween the first episode and last episode of Columbo. By about 7 or 8 months. Columbo ran from Feb 1968 to late Jan 2003, in dribs and drabs, so 34 years and 11 months. H&A began in Jan 1988 and is still going as of August 2023. 35 years and 7 months.

Interesting, they must have read your post roverman. I don't think for one second Channel 4 will drop the soap, as the article says it still has so much potential and the all important Youth market. Channel 4 made a huge mistake by getting rid of Brookside. A new show runner is just what the soap needs, look what it has done for EastEnders. Full marks to Channel 4 for taking action. ITV take note you need to do the same with you're soaps!
