I abhor that Band Aid dirge too, in fact I hate it more every time they re-release it with the talentless cretins dredged up from Xfactor grinding through the hideous crap of "Do they know it Christmastime at all....................................." Arrgggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh What I despise most about it is seeing the £ signs registering in geldof's eyes, clocking the dosh as it floods for that hackneyed load of canal barge bilge that is meant to get you to empty your wallet to buy isis some more guns (or canon fodder). HATE IT

Just watching my recording of today's This Morning and Shakin' Stevens is singing a new version of Merry Christmas Everyone at the end - sort of stripped back guitar based version, with a bass, a banjo and harmonica too! Sounds like a 'pub version' but I quite enjoyed it. All in aid of the Salvation Army so I hope it does well. Found it! When you watch that video it reminds you of the important work that the Sally Army does. Nice one

When walking around the shops today I had the misfortune to hear "A Spaceman came Travelling" by Chris de Blurrrgh! to_vomit I bloody hate that song (and I hate Lady In Red that much it brings me out in hives) but I've had that Spaceman dross in my head ever since and it's midnight and it STILL won't budge! I've tried playing Slade, Wizard, Shakin' Stevens, Mud, Wham and even the great Pogues and Kirsty but NOTHING, NOTHING will shift it. Gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah! *runs from thread screaming* My jusband has bought the sheet music for 'A spaceman Came Travelling'. MeRcifully he has been learning it on the electric piano (oh lordy, forgot the piano in my list of things i couldn't be without) which has a headphones socket but i doubt I'll get away without having it performed for me in full over the Holidays! As if the original wasn't bad enough!

Well in late August they played an advert which had the sound of Xmas bells in it. Dear God it is summer!!!. It was a crappy Studio65 whatever advert.
Love the original Band Aid song from 1984. Hate the 2004 version.
Greg Lake's song samples music from the song played in the 2015 Argos advert.

Anyone else have the Sky TV box?
On 1st december they brought out the Christmas muzak selection to accompany the Menu pages which consists of some obvious gems like Jingle Bells etc, but there are also a couple that are just, well, bizarre.
The weirdest is some plinky-plonk tune with sleigh bells added over the soundtrack to which they have also put on the sound of what I guess is supposed to be children's laughter at random interludes. Its just really strange.

Lennon's is quality.
The absolute worst is Baby, It's Cold Outside - a date rape anthem.

I'm listening to some Xmas songs before I go out, get me in the mood kind of thing, and I've just realised that Last Christmas not 'arf goes on at the end! They could chop a good 40 seconds off it and it wouldn't bother me.

I know it's overplayed and cliché and whatnot, but I could not and will not get tired of I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday - I simply adore it!! However, I will never ever understand why the hell Roy Wood redid it with The Wombles No need, Royston, just no need at all...

I like Wham's Last Christmas but since George came out the words have took on a different meaning for me... Before he came out nearly everyone assumed he was singing about a girl and if you watch the video this seems to be the case... However re-watch the video with the knowledge that he was probably singing about a bloke...
Did he give his heart to Andrew Ridgley who then repaid him by bringing a floosy to the gathering the year after...? Is George jealous of this woman...?
It kind of fits apart from the brooch bit which he may have added in to the Video to throw us off the scent... Or maybe George gave it to Andrew who then gave it to her... Or maybe I'm just over thinking it...
Either way a brilliant song which brings back so many memories...

I am fuming. Absolutely fuming. On radio 2 before dinner the absolute WORST renedition of a song I have EVER heard. A diabolical, unconscionable, intolerable and inexcusable copy of Fairytale of New York by some talentless, excretable tone deaf prick smiley-angry . WHO THE HELL IN THEIR RIGHT MIND TRIES TO REDO A CLASSIC AND PROCEEDS TO MURDER THE LIVING STUFFING OUT OF IT?! smiley-angry I have never wanted to murder someone but I could happily make an exception in this case...and I'm not one for painful violence either, but if somebody stopped him outside the bbc radio studios on the way out and promptly gave him a shoeing like no other, I'd send them a basket of fruit and a crate of bubbly. Some things shouldn't be messed with, ever. This is one of them you bilious clueless cretin. Now piss off back into the oblivion you crawled from smiley-angry smiley-hit .

Lol Collie, love your rants! smiley-biglaugh After some intrepid Lotty investigations I've found out it's by Jamie Lawson and it was voted one of the most popular tracks on Ken Bruce's programme today? smiley-yikes Now the only song I know by this fella is some turgid, downbeat thing called 'I Wasn't Expecting That' (which MrL likes, really, there's no helping some people) so I can only imagine how bad his version of 'Fairytale of New York' was smiley-angry No one should cover that song EVER. Shane and the late, great Kirsty can't be beaten, end of! (as those pesky kids might say).
