Best (by a country mile): John Lennon's.
Original Band Aid (circa 1984) a long second.

Ooh I'll have to think about this - i'm a bit of a sucker for Christmas songs. Presume we're talking pop/rock not carols? Although for the record my fave is 'Hark the Herald Angels Sing'.
Love a lot of the obvious (and cheesy) ones - Stop the Calvary Fairytale of New York Santa Baby (Eartha Kitts) Santa Claus is Coming to Town (Phil Spectres) Jingle Bell rock Rockin Around the xmas Tree In Dulce Jubilo Lonely This Christmas
And perhaps most shamefully
All I Want for Christmas Is You by Mariah Carey
Hate all of cliff Richards, especially the Millennium Prayer Wonderful Christmastime Step Into Christmas.

Best
I Belive In Father Christmas by Greg Lake. Original Band Aid 1984 Do They Know Its Xmas? Merry Xmas Everyone by Shakin Stevens. Merry Christmas Everybody - Slade
Worst.
John Lennon's So This Is Xmas. Razor blade sales increase when that song is played as does Beachy Head cliff jumps without a rope.

Oh, I believe in Father Christmas - yes that's a good one.
Also quite likd 'Driving Home for Christmas' even if it is a 'Dads' song.
I quite "Merry Xmas, war is Over'. Don't mind a bit of depression at Xmas!
I find 'Stay Another Day' very tiresome though. Somehow it makes it worse that it was written about a dead brother.

Speaking of Beachy Head, did you hear about that guy that drove his car off the top and survived? Happened a couple of weeks ago I think.
Sorry for going off topic.

There are alsp a few songs that i associate with Christmas (due to being in the charts in the run up) and love, even though they aren't Christmassy.
Pet Shop Boys 'Always on My Mind' T'Pau 'China in Your Hands' FriarHeights 'Keeping the Dream Alive' Whitney Houston 'saving All My Love For You' And of course 'Power of Love' - both Jennifer Rush and Frankies

Ive got a playlist on my ipod with 40 xmas songs on redface4 Ultimate favourites: I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday - Wizzard Fairytale of New York - Pogues and the late, great Kirsty MacColl I Believe In Father Christmas - Greg Lake I have shamed-faced ultimate favourites that I'm embarrassed to admit to, one is: Once Upon a Christmas Song - Geraldine McQueen (off the Peter Kay Pop Idol spoof! I love this song! redface4 smiley-biglaugh Altogether now - "Over and over, and over again, Every December they get in our heads, Turn em’ up, play em loud, Christmas should be the same, Singing them over and over, and over and over again...") I also loved Michael Buble's Christmas Album from a couple of years ago, well, you gotta have some cheese at Christmas! I adore 'O Holy Night' particularly the Josh Groban version. I've never been particularly keen on 'Last Christmas' by Wham for some reason even though it's on my playlist! I suppose it has funny memories of my niece when she was little being absolutely convinced that George Michael was singing "last christmas I gave you a CARD ... " she would not be told it was 'my heart'

Ere'. I love Slade! Tis my era and I love Noddy Holder Also I have a cd of old favourites by Sinatra and the like - classics one nd all. However I really cannot bear and I absolutely LOATHE Mistletoe & Wine by Cliff, a nerve-twitching, gut-wrenching dirge. If I hear it in a shop I feel the need to leave immediately before my ears start bleeding

I love a Christmas song too. Don't mind shops playing them in November or anything Very hard to pick a favourite, though I expect I'd pick the obvious Fairytale of New York. There are just too many good ones to list, of all styles. For my worst I'm torn between that supremely arrogant offering from Cliff, 'The Millenium Prayer' and 'I wish it could be a Wombling Merry Christmas, every daaa-aaayyy' (there must've been drugs involved for both of those!) The best Christmas movie soundtrack for me is hands down Home Alone. Love all the songs in it and gets me all excited for the season.

Absolute favourite by a country mile is Fairytale of New York by the Pogues and sublime Kirsty.
Absolute worst is Wonderful Christmas Time by Macca. How did one of Beatles come up with such a dreadful dirge of a song?!
Others I like are:
12 Days of Christmas It's Gonna Be a Cold Christmas Marshmallow World Mary's Boy Child but not Boney M's version Rocking Around the Christmas Tree Santa Baby Stop The Cavalry In The Bleak Midwinter A Winter's Tale Lonely This Christmas In Dulce Jubilo White Christmas Lonely Pup In a Christmas Shop All of Cliff's Christmas songs, especially Mistletoe and Wine. I think this stems from the fact that my mum is a huge Cliff fan, and when I was little she used to sit me on the kitchen worktop while she was ironing or cooking, with M&W (amongst others) blaring out of the tape player! I remember we had to learn it on the piano at school and nobody had a clue how it went, except me, who not only knew the tune, but could also reel off every lyric, much to the surprise of the teacher!! redface4 smiley-biglaugh

"Baby, it's cold outside" - don't think anybody has mentioned that one.
I can never quite make up my mind about 'Last Christmas'. I do like it but not as much as I'd expect to considering I was (and still am) a huge Whamette. Never got into the Spandau Ballet versis Duran, Duran thing at school (although i liked both) - it was Wham all the way for me. Much prefer the B side, "Everything She Wants". I did once hear that Mochale and Ridgely pledged all the royalties forever for Last Christmas to Band Aid which must have been a lot of money considering it is on every compilation they ever release and I believe is the highest selling Xmas single of all time that didn't make No1 - because of Band Aid.
I share the feelings about 'Wonderful Christmasstime'. I'm a huge Beatles fan, absolutely adore them, close to worship and to think McCartney came up with that tripe!!??

Hey Mr Christmas - ShowaddyWaddy Step Into Christmas - Elton John Merry Xmas/War Is Over - John Lennon Wonderful Christmastime - Paul McCartney I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday - Wizzard A Spaceman Came Travelling - Chris DeBurgh I Believe In Father Christmas - Greg Lake Stop The Cavalry - Jona Louie Christmas Song - Gilbert O-Sullivan Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas - Judy Garland Mary`s Boy Child - Boney M Little Drummer Boy - Bing/Bowie
Even it`s technically not a Christmas song, I still associate it with Christmas The Power of Love - Frankie Goes To Hollywood
