Establishing that Henry Hubbard, Vincent's father knew Den Watts is not a retcon but establishing a connection. Den was popular round the Albert Square area. These things help add to the history of the area, past characters having known rellies of current characters. Den Watts never said he never knew anyone with the surname Hubbard and many of his friends were probably never saw. Also in 1985, several houses in Albert Square were seen but the residents were never seen such as No 41 or No 30. And George Street was not seen until 1994, and for the first few years we did not know who lived in the George Street houses apart from Jules Tavernier. Maybe the Hubbard's lived down George Street or even Victoria Road, the houses behind the car lot or the towerblock.
Another revelation is that if we do find out the vagrant who died in the car lot in 1994 was a foster sibling of Vincent Hubbard then I can just about swallow that, he was staying in a dosshouse and kipping rough. Maybe he was a blood sibling of Donna Yates, their parents died when Donna was a baby and Claudette Hubbard fostered them. He was a foster sibling of Vincent Hubbard. The vagrant was in Albert Square at the time and lived in a dosshouse so must have lived locally.
A retcon is the fact that Eric Mitchell was friends with Den Watts, Henry Hubbard, Ted Hills and Gavin Sullivan. In 1990 Phil and Grant were newcomers to the area, they heard of a Den Watts who used to run the Vic and had to ask who he was. They said no one knows them round this area, and they said they were unfamiliar with Walford itself, let alone Albert Square. In 2003, Den Watts had no idea who Phil Mitchell was, or who his family were and had to ask Dot and a few others, then he heard of Phils reputation. When Phil and Den met for the first time when Phil dropped his phone, they did not know who each other was, and that was before Den found out about Phil.
If Eric was friends with Ted Hills first of all, then why did Ted not say so in 1995-1996 when Phil and him interacted. And if Phil's dad Eric and Kathy's brother Ted were friends, why did Phil and Kathy never say this when they were together from 1993 to 1999?
When Den returned in 2003 and was a friend of the late Eric Mitchell, even if he never heard of Phil Mitchell, who was only a kid at the time Den knew Eric, he'd have said the only Mitchell he knew was an Eric Mitchell, he lived round here as well. But it is assumed now that Den knew Eric for years and years so would have heard of his sons Phil and Grant. And in 1990, the Mitchells brothers would have said "That name rings a bell" about the mention of the name Den Watts. Phil and Grant first heard of Den in 1990 and did not know who he was at all.
