With Rebecca becoming Bex it occurred to me that EE seems to be more into the idea of characters having nicknames.
I'm pretty certain the end credits said "Rebecca 'Bex' Fowler" for a while just like it says "Andrew 'Buster' Briggs" and previously "Fiona 'Tosh' Mackintosh". This all seems to have started back in 1985 with the introduction of Lofty, real name George Holloway. Was he ever called George? Even Dr Legg refers to him by his nickname!
Struggling to think of a single time other soaps have done this.

Was Sinbad his real name in Brookie...? I always assumed it was a nickname because he was a bit of a scally...

Well remembered Charley!

Not a nickname as such, but Mary the Punk's actual name was Theresa. Just like Lesley 'Jane' Beale.

Yep, Sinbad was known as Sinbad from when he was a window cleaner in the early days and he'd clean the windows like portals and miss the corners. He was really Thomas Sweeney.
